Excited to be helping Long Point Basin Land Trust with their growing conservation work in the Norfolk area. Always fun to be filmed by the Work Cabin team. Gregg and Cynthia are pros and they make everything with a shoot go very smoothly.

Late spring colour around the gardens today. A selection of natives and near natives. If only we could get some rain! We have missed all the thunderstorms over the past few days...this is our 19th day with no rain!. Maybe tonight!

We are now open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 to 5 until the end of October.

May was a wild and crazy month with big swings in weather, potting up thousands of plants and getting our landscaping season underway! Our team has grown and I want to thank them all for putting in long days and doing so with big smiles. Really proud of our 2026 staff. Clockwise from upper left: Dylan being ecstatic about one of our rhododendrons, Sherry enjoying a great tree hug, Susan admiring her namesake 'Susan' magnolia, Ryan hanging out in a dogwood tree and Aidan enjoying an Australian Bottlebrush tree (one of our summer subtropical display items). It is reassuring to be heading into the summer season with such great colleagues. Thanks to my partner Gregor as well for all the help and support he provides on a daily basis.

There is still room in the Gardening with Native Shade Plants workshop we are putting on at South Coast Gardens for the Long Point Basin Land Trust Sunday morning June 7th from 10am to noon. It's free and you can park next door at the Pond Reserve or in front of the nursery if there is room. Bring a lawn chair and relax in the shade. The nursery is across the street from #1634 front road.

Umbrella magnolia (Magnolia tripetala) caught flowering in the late evening light. Native to the central and southern Appalachian Mountains, it does well here in southern Ontario. The new and very large leaves create a whorl as they emerge in spring which is why the tree is referred to as umbrella magnolia.

This evening just after sunset and with a full moon rising an unexpected voice rang out in the nursery gardens. While we have had increasing numbers and diversity of birds visiting trees and other plantings I was surprised to have a whip-poor-will begin serenading us from the depths of our plantings. Such a cool song. Rather repetitive but that's what whip-poor-will songs are all about. Sound up to hear it best.

I took a quick stroll through the nursery gardens last evening with a light drizzle falling. Captured a few moisture laden spring things in flower. Enjoy!
