BRRRRR. Guess I gotta keep my plants warm for another coue of weeks. High of 9 today and freezing tonight. I did manage to get onion sets in and moved around some perennials in the yard so at least I feel like I did something!! Happy waiting, for those in the same boat.

Hardening off plants before planting outside. Many of us lose plants after planting outside this could be one reason.
Harden off before transplanting: Gradually acclimate your seedlings to outdoor conditions before transplanting them into the garden. Start by placing them outside for 30 minutes on the first day, gradually increasing the time over the course of a week or two - Don’t rush this!
Don't ever assume your plants from the nursery are hardened off, especially when we've had fairly tough weather conditions for the month of May. Many plants have not had the chance to get outside yet.
Another method is to plant out and then cover with a row cover to provide some protection, gradually exposing them to more light over a week.

It’s easy to start everything at once—and a bit too early.
It feels productive—and it can be—but without the right timing it often leads to:
seedlings outgrowing their space
timing that’s just a bit off
extra work that doesn’t pay off
In Zone 3, timing matters more than anything.
If you get that right, everything gets easier.
I’ve been helping gardeners sort this out for their own gardens.
