A lovely feature to share today. 🤍

Pine View Acres is featured on All Things Home, and I’m so grateful to Patrick Langston for taking the time to tell the story behind our home so thoughtfully.

This house was very much a labour of love — designed to feel as though it had been here much longer than it actually has. From the old hand-hewn beams and antique French doors I’d collected and tucked away for years, to the mix of woods, timeworn pieces and, of course, the range that started the entire kitchen design — every part of it was meant to have a sense of history and permanence.

Thank you, Patrick and All Things Home, for such a wonderful feature, and to Robin Stubbert for capturing our home so beautifully.

And a special thank you to everyone who has followed along with Pine View Acres. It’s been so lovely to see this home and its story resonate with so many of you.

This one feels pretty special. 🤍

I’m incredibly proud to share that both the Pine View Acres Kitchen and our Greenside Project Kitchen have been awarded Silver certification at the international GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN Awards.

This marks my first international recognition as a designer, which makes this one particularly meaningful. To have not one, but two projects recognized on an international stage is something I’m still taking in.

These two kitchens are very different, but both reflect so much of what I believe good design should be — thoughtful, functional, layered with character and designed to feel at home for years to come.

And having Pine View Acres, my own kitchen and such a personal project, among them makes it even more special.

I’m also incredibly proud to share this recognition with Caroline Castrucci and Laurysen Kitchens Ltd., whose craftsmanship and collaboration helped bring both designs to life.

Very grateful. Very proud. And perhaps still a little bit in disbelief. 🤍

It’s been a little quiet around here lately, but certainly not behind the scenes. 🤍

This summer has been a busy one at Sonya Kinkade Design, with renovations underway, new projects taking shape, millwork being designed and all of the details that happen long before a finished room is ready to photograph and share.

At the same time, I’ve been spending a little more time at home at Pine View Acres and trying something completely new — sharing more of our home, property and everyday life on YouTube. Being in front of the camera is definitely a departure for someone who has spent most of her career happily behind the scenes, but I’m really enjoying this new creative outlet.

So while things may have looked a little quiet here, life has been anything but. There are some beautiful design projects taking shape that I’ll be sharing as they come together — and, apparently, you may be seeing a little more of me around here too. 😊
Thank you for continuing to follow along.

The Greenside Project | Part Two

What was once the formal dining room is now one of my favourite spaces in the home.

When we opened the walls between the kitchen, dining room, and hallway, it gave us the opportunity to completely rethink how this family would use the space. Rather than replacing one dining room with another, we designed a hardworking wall of pantry storage, open display shelving, a built-in banquette, and a cozy breakfast nook that feels connected to the kitchen.

Every inch was designed with purpose—from hidden storage to a dedicated beverage centre—while the layered styling, olive cabinetry, and warm wood details continue the English country character throughout the main floor.

The result is a space that works beautifully for everyday family life while still feeling timeless and inviting.

Tomorrow is a little different.

Many of you know me as an interior designer, but over the past eight years my husband and I have been building something very personal—Pine View Acres.

Tomorrow I’m sharing the first episode of a new YouTube series that takes you behind the designs and into the home, the journey, and the life we’re creating here.

If you’ve ever wondered about the story behind this place, I’d love to have you join me.

New episode tomorrow at 9:00 AM. 🤍 Pine View Acres YouTube

One of my favourite corners of this home.

The custom built-ins were designed to frame the stone fireplace while adding warmth, storage, and a quiet place to pause. Every shelf, every finish, and every detail was considered so the room feels as beautiful on an ordinary Tuesday as it does when it’s full of family and friends.

Great design isn’t just about creating a beautiful space—it’s about creating places you’ll actually want to live in.

What would you choose first… the window seat with a book or the fireside chair? 🤍

After ➡️ Before

The goal wasn’t to make this room feel bigger. It was to make it feel brighter, more inviting, and better connected to the rest of the home.

We began by reworking the architecture—removing the stone accents, adding vertical shiplap, and replacing the small horizontal window with a much larger one to flood the space with natural light.

From there, scale became everything. The original dining set felt undersized, so we introduced a larger table, properly scaled seating, and a substantial sideboard to anchor the room. Artwork and sconces along the feature wall bring warmth, balance, and help define the dining space within the open-concept layout.

Every change worked together to create a room that feels welcoming, timeless, and complete.

After and Before | The Greenside Project, one space at a time. Part 1

——————————————————-

If you saw this kitchen when I first shared the completed project, here’s where it all began.

👉👉Swipe to see the before.

The original kitchen felt enclosed and disconnected from the rest of the main floor. By removing the walls between the kitchen, dining room, and hallway, we completely reimagined the layout, creating one open, light-filled space that now serves as the heart of the home.

My clients loved English country interiors and weren’t afraid to embrace colour, so we leaned into rich olive cabinetry, warm oak, timeless detailing, and layers of texture to create a kitchen that feels both elegant and inviting.

This renovation was later featured in House & Home magazine and received a GOHBA Award for Best Kitchen, but the greatest success is how beautifully it works for the family who lives here.

Over the next few days, I’ll be sharing more before-and-afters from the Greenside Project and the stories behind each space.
