Goldenrod is a shrubby, native perennial with fluffy golden flower spikes that typically blooms from late July through October. Grows best in any location with average or even poor soil. [NOTE: Not to be confused with the allergy-triggering ragweed, which looks similar and blooms around the same time in late summer. These are two totally different flowers. Goldenrod allergies are very rare, fortunately!]
We’re located at 3768 Highway 6 (halfway between Pictou and Tatamagouche). Our normal hours are noon to 5:00, but we’ll have extended hours (10-5) during the Native Plant Sale this Saturday (20 June). 😊

NATIVE PERENNIAL OF THE DAY: SWAMP MILKWEED [Asclepias incarnata] ***AVAILABLE AT OUR NATIVE PLANT SALE THIS SATURDAY, 20 JUNE, 10-5****
Get ready for the Monarchs! They’ll be returning to the Maritimes any day now and need milkweed for their offspring!
These are not the aggressive type of milkweed -- simply collect the seedpods before they ripen to control their spread. Asclepias milkweeds are the ONLY food Monarch caterpillars consume, so by placing this beautiful plant in your garden, you will help attract this magnificent creature. **Also available: Asclepias tuberosa (the orange-coloured Butterfly Milkweed).
Available at Seafoam Lavender Co. & Gardens, 3768 Highway 6, Seafoam NS (halfway between Pictou and Tatamagouche).

Every now and then, we come across information that is so interesting, it bears sharing with our friends and colleagues. Most of you share our fascination with Monarch Butterflies (which should be arriving at Seafoam Lavender Company & Gardens any day now). But do you know "HOW" they locate the milkweed plants that are crucial to the survival of their species? The short answer: through a combination of sight and smell -- and (among other body parts) they "smell" using their FEET! Who knew??! Here's a scientific memo from Cornell University that goes into more detail. https://agrawal.eeb.cornell.edu/2021/06/22/qa-how-monarchs-find-milkweed/?utm_id=97757_v0_s00_e233_tv2_tp1_a1dennhax441xo&fbclid=IwY2xjawSeiSxleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETE4aTVCbUxXRU0xR2daSUxpc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHh1QGo9bFpnJ2eCPUwKGEVDjItMkKbKQMqL97iamim295J8iaGEHCBKBAS2V_aem_UU2_qPyrvgjLQRJBqMIu-Qhttps://

Our 3rd annual Native Plant Sale is this Saturday, June 20th, from 10-5 pm at Seafoam Lavender Farm, 3768 Highway 6, Seafoam, NS.

We will have thirty species of native Nova Scotian and North American perennials for sale, as well as an enormous selection of native seeds. Our native plants have been grown from winter-sown seed or from dividing plants in our own gardens. We do not wild-harvest any plants. Some plants are available in very limited quantities.

Please note that many of these plants are slow-growing perennials and may take several years to reach full size and flower. But trust us - it's worth the wait.

Regrettably, we are not able to ship any plants, but our seed collection is available for purchase and shipping within Canada or to the United States.

FULL LIST OF AVAILABLE PLANTS AND SEEDS WILL BE POSTED IN THE COMMENTS BELOW!
