We're proud to have been part of this incredible project at The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada.

This facility features our custom mesh stalls, horseshoe latch, DIY barn doors, and 3- and 4-board fencing—all designed to support the Sanctuary's unique operational needs while prioritizing the welfare, safety, and comfort of its donkeys, mules, and hinnies.

A heartfelt thank you to the Sanctuary's generous donors, whose support made this purpose-built space possible and helps continue its mission of providing lifelong care, rehabilitation, and refuge for animals in need.

This project combines several fencing styles to create a safe, practical, and attractive enclosure:

2x4 no-climb wire helps reduce the chance of a hoof passing through the fence, making it a popular fence choice for foals and young horses. Wood board fencing adds strength, visibility, and a classic equestrian look, while the aluminum gate provides dependable access without sacrificing appearance.

The black flexible rail creates a highly visible boundary with added give, and the electric strands help discourage horses from leaning, rubbing, or testing the fence. By combining these materials, we can tailor each section to the terrain, the horses, and the way the property is used.

Not every gate needs the same latch. Choosing the right hardware can make everyday use around your barn or pasture easier.

From left to right:

• Aluminum Double Gate Latch — designed specifically to securely hold double Aluminum Diamond 6-Bar Gates together. The handles allow the latch to swing open and can even be operated from horseback.

• Two-Way Lockable Latch — a heavy-duty, one-hand-operated latch that allows the gate to swing in either direction. It can also accept a padlock when additional security is needed.

• Quick Latch — a simple, popular option made from galvanized steel and welded chain that can be easily opened with one hand, on horseback or off.

Strong fencing starts with choosing the right system for the terrain.

For this Caledon property, we installed a combination of 4-rail hardwood fencing and no-climb wire to create a secure, practical boundary around wooded areas, slopes, laneways, and landscaped spaces.

The hardwood rails provide a highly visible barrier for horses, while the closely spaced no-climb mesh helps reduce the risk of hooves or legs passing through the fence. This combination is especially useful where the property changes elevation or follows an irregular fence line.

Every farm is different, so thoughtful layout, proper post spacing, strong materials, and professional installation all matter when creating a safe and long-lasting enclosure.
