EVOLUTIONS OF A SPACE!

I’ve been working with for a while now, for different projects and I find the work invigorating. He is someone who is always seeking more clarity, self-improvement and growth. We cleared and rearranged this space back in the fall, to facilitate steam-lined creativity. (How can you not be creative and love working in such a beautiful place with so much natural light???)

Often times there are layers of decluttering and clearing, both physically and mentally. We get clarity on one level, it allows us to move forward, and as we move forward, we recognize what now stands in our way, or what could be simpler or make our engine run more smoothly.

This time around we moved most of the paintings, easels and art supplies upstairs to a designated art room, so this room could be freed up for computer work stations and, of course, visiting and relaxing at the end of the day, without as much visual distraction.

ADDING PERSONAL TOUCHES!

I posted these photos before but felt they deserved their own post.

The bulk of our time was spent sitting at a long table sorting papers, one by one! I’m sure it felt like it might never end - or like ‘how is THIS going to actually change the piles of unorganized papers on my desk I can never get to?’ But then all of a sudden, the sorting was done, the simple systems were set up…and there was all this room left over!

Our goal was to get things simplified and organized, but my *secret* hope was that we could get all the calendar photos and personal photos from his travels up on the walls and displayed!

The idea in all of the work that I do is to help people get to what sparks joy and makes them come alive. That’s why we declutter. That’s why we clarify. It is NOT about having less stuff, it is about having what electrifies us, what encourages and delights us, what grounds us in our one good life.

I find it is sometimes the hardest last step to go from organized to beautified! So, while he may choose to rearrange things as he settles into his new office environment, I couldn’t NOT take the opportunity to surround him with things that will inspire the mind and delight the eye!

It’s all an experiment, anyway, this life. Let’s try moving the practical into a tidy drawer and the beautiful up onto the walls and shelves and into frames!

THE JOYS OF THE JOB!

Each home or space I go into is so unique. Sometimes I work solely with a client and we motor through the work together. Sometimes their kids are decluttering with us and they remind us to play and be present in each moment. Sometimes partners work together with me and the time is full of the interplay of conversation around their life of stuff and memories together.

And then sometimes there are these loves!!! I met Jasper and Lucy out on a farm in Saskatchewan while clearing out a client’s childhood room and storage. They both captured my heart right away (especially Lucy, the dark one!) and so throughout the day of work, whenever we took a break we would sit outside and these two dogs would pour their affection on me and all over me! I’ve never fallen in love so completely with animals as I did that day. I will never forget these two soulful and spirited dogs I met on the job.

I love each job I do - it truly is an honour to be welcomed into your homes and personal spaces. I love meeting those who make up the best part of your life, as we work to make an atmosphere they helps you love them better.

Thank you all for bringing me into your homes and lives. I cherish it 🍃🍂🍃

PAPERS! (swipe for AFTER!)

These photos don’t even show a complete picture of the before and after of this client’s paper…and his process!

This BEFORE shot only shows some of the entire filing cabinet we emptied (some of the files are on the chairs surrounding the table, waiting for their turn!).

This AFTER action shot is actually while we were only halfway done, if you can believe it! In the final two photos you’ll see all the papers left on his desk: a small filing system for his more frequently used files, a ziploc for receipts and a book for important payment and business cards!

What also amazed me in working with this client was, once given a system to work within, his own natural organization came out and I returned one day to find him sorting and labeling away, with crisp systems and places for everything!

My work is about empowering YOU. It’s about listening to the way YOU naturally relate to your life and stuff and then giving you tools so you can feel clear and free when it comes to interacting with your life!

Here’s a big hurrah to this client and everyone else who dares tackle the intricacies of getting SPECIFIC with your life and your spaces. It is ALWAYS worth the effort to get to a more simplified life.

BEFORE & AFTER OFFICE!

Phew! I just finished one of my biggest and most satisfying Decluttering jobs yet! This client has been trying to order and organize his office for years. Finally, it’s done.

We went through every piece of paper in his whole house! (Papers have a way of creeping into every area). We purged every paper that no longer had purpose in his life. We not only filled 2.5 tall bins with paper recycling, but we COMPLETELY GOT RID OF THE WHOLE 4-DRAWER DOUBLE-WIDE FILING UNIT!

Now he’s left with one small set of “more frequently” used files on his desk for easy access, and one small drawer of “less frequently” used files. This is all he needs. Right there. Years of clutter in the mind - cleared out. Now everything has a place and a *SIMPLE* system, and he can get to the things he needs to focus his sweet time on!

We also took out a useless shelf that was getting in the way and added the finishing touches of joy all over this room!!! This client loves all things North Africa and travels there often, so, right at the end, we papered his room with all the photos and images and memorabilia from his travels, so he can work surrounded by JOY and INSPIRATION!

I wish him so much ease and delight as he works and dreams…

STUDIO BEFORE & AFTER!

This client and her studio are bursting with creativity and productivity! I’m not exaggerating - she’s produced well over thirty quilts in the last few years!!!

It was time to take it up a notch in her studio space, so we spent hours and hours together pulling out bins and bins of fabric and other craft supplies and collections of projects and helping her to deeply clarify her space with questions like - What is my focus? What do I REALLY want to focus my time on, and what am I doing just because I think I SHOULD? Could I let this go, or is it central to what I love and what makes me happy?

We didn’t get rid of all this stuff you see here, we just downsized and found better homes for it all. More pics coming!!!

PATIO SPACES!
We dug right into this project so quick that I didn’t snap a “BEFORE” shot of the space, but basically…we cleared the whole area out!

This client wanted to organize the kids’ outdoor toys into bins, so they wouldn’t be sprawling all over this nice, covered space, so they could enjoy the fall weather here in BC.

Can you just feel the peace and ease available to them now? I wonder what space it frees up in their minds, too, to sit out there and dream… 🍃🍂🍃
