Sometimes the biggest problems are the ones you can’t see until it’s almost too late.

On our recent Butler project rescue mission, we found exactly that. What started as a simple moss removal revealed a serious "invisible failure": zinc strips had been nailed directly below the shingle line by a previous contractor.

In our coastal climate, that’s a recipe for disaster. The result? Water was trapped, leading to significant roof deck rot and leaks that had been quietly doing damage since 2016.

A simple moss removal job at the Butler project recently turned into a critical rescue mission.

While clearing the roof, we discovered a major failure from previous work: zinc strips had been nailed directly below the shingle line, creating a clear path for water to bypass the protection and rot the deck.
