Most fruit tree pruning should be done when trees are dormant. That means cold air, and cold soil. The signs of spring are already here, so if you would like to get your fruit trees pruned, it needs to happen soon! We also do big trees. That’s me at the top of a fir the other day!

One of 17 giant sequoia seedlings ( Sequoiadendron giganteum ) that I’m growing for customers who would would like to replace a tree that we removed.
Why giant redwoods instead of a native sow species?
1. They are well adapted to grow in our climate.
2. They grow rapidly and you can soon have a big beautiful tree. Right before your eyes, you can watch a tiny seedling grow into a big tree.
3. Being fast growing and the largest species on earth, they sequester a LOT of carbon.
4. They are drought and fire resistant.
Reach out to us if you would like one. They are free and I will help you choose a suitable spot on your property to grill one!

Our small but mighty winch saves a LOT of back breaking work. Here we drag a whole 60 foot tree to the chipper!

Yesterday we took down a big tree that had fungus growing on the roots. It’s a major red flag to have fungus growing anywhere on a tree and especially the root crown.
We had to lower every branch and the trunk with a process called “rigging” that uses ropes and pullies. One of the guys got a sweet video showing me rigging the top. Enjoy!

As trend towards being hotter and drier, and wildfires become more common and extreme, it would be well worth your time to think about making your property as fire resistant as possible. One of the reasons that wildfires are becoming so intense is that “low value” deciduous trees like willow and maple are being killed off and replaced with much more flammable conifers. You might want to consider doing the opposite: removing highly flammable trees close to your house and replacing them with fire resistant species.
I’ll post a couple links below that are worth reading.

Protect your home from wildfires by choosing trees with low-flammability and fire-safe attributes! Former organic farmer and horticultural expert Logan Hailey digs into 13 fire-resistant yet beautiful trees for a defensible landscape.

My new video is published! This one is on leaning trees, and some important things to look at if you have one leaning towards your house.

Is a tree leaning towards your house? This is how I decide if it is fine, or if your house is in danger.
