I'm thrilled to see this banana squash thriving this year!

Last year, I tried this squash for the first time from a different grower, and my kids loved it! They devoured the soup I made with it, which is quite unusual for them.

This squash will eventually turn pink, so I consider that a win-win.

If you're eager to be out in your yard doing something at this time of year, here's what you can do before official fall cleanup season starts:

🪴 Replace tired potted plants with mums or celosia
🫘 Start saving seeds in earnest
🏡 Work on any remaining projects around your yard that you’d like to finish before the first snowfall (and pick up any items lying around as you go)
🥀 Remove dead or bug-infested plants

This isn't a time for an excessive garden cleanup. This is simply to make life easier for yourself until the frost arrives, which shouldn't be anytime soon—yay!

I have a lot of favourite combos, but this is definitely one of my all-time favourites at this time of year! It truly captures the essence of the season: a little hint of summer and a little hint of fall.

Orach is the plant everyone loves until it self-seeds. With my sandy soil, self-seeding hasn't been much of a problem, but for others, orach can quickly become a w**d!

Apparently, if you harvest orach when it's young, you can eat the leaves, and they taste like spinach. When I tried it, I found them quite bitter, but I might have let them grow for too long.

Do you grow orach in your garden? What's your favourite way to use it?
