H.E.R. Ladyslippers

H.E.R. Ladyslippers A Saskatoon based family run operation, H.E.R. Ladyslippers Saskatoon provides healthy and hardy plants to buyers across Canada.

As one of the few suppliers of ladyslippers in Canada H.E.R. Ladyslippers can ship to buyers across Canada. All of our plants are grown outside in the natural Saskatchewan environment and thrive with minimal care. Less finicky than other ladyslippers we have grown these plants seem able to better handle the many different environments one can find throughout Canada. After over 20 years of experien

ce at propagating them through root division and naturalized seeding Cypripedium Pubescens is, in our opinion, the hardiest member of the Cypripedium family and we recommend them for any home garden. With a minimum amount of care your single plant should grow to 20-40 cm (10-15 inches) topped with a beautiful and fragrant yellow Ladyslipper surrounded by yellow petals which may contain some mauve or rusty colored spots. Left undisturbed your Ladyslipper should multiply into a sizable bunch in a few years. We have had Pubescens which over a number of years have grown into bunches containing fifty or more plants. The Royal Botanical Gardens site ( www.rbg.ca/orchids) provides a listing of the types of Orchids that may be found in Canada and is well worth a look.

This summer was a bit slower for purchases than the previous year, though my two week absence from the country probably had something to do with that. The blooms are winding down, and as such we will being taking names for our 2016 waiting list. We have 125 pots in the ground right now, though we only sell those that come up with a bloom (stress from splitting can occasionally delay the bloom a year) so we should have a good number ready for next year. If you know anyone looking for hardy, Saskatchewan grown ladyslippers who have wintered (and survived!) here in Saskatoon tell them to send us a message!

Somewhat blurry pictures but we are saying goodbye to the 2015 blooms- so pretty we wished they bloomed all summer long and not just mainly through June! Do you have any pictures of the ladyslippers or Orchids in your home? Share them with us!

Gearing up for spring I am posting the remodeled planting and care instructions that will be sent out via e-mail to each person who purchases a plant from us this spring. If you are interested in purchasing some plants please e-mail me at [email protected] so you can be added to the 2015 waiting list!

06/18/2014

Due to requests we have split an addition 20-25 plants that will be available for pick up first come first serve Sundays between 2-5pm you can e-mail me at [email protected] and I will give you address and my cell phone number you can call or text before coming and I will let you know how many plants are left!

Almost done all the pick ups for 2014- currently all plants are spoken for however, if I have any "no shows" or drop outs I will make the extras available.

If you would like to sign up for a 2015 waiting list you can contact me at [email protected] with your name and the number of plants you are looking to buy I do not require a deposit since I know peoples circumstances can change (and I do not guarantee the plants to anyone in case of some unforeseen circumstances), I will e-mail everyone on the list when plants become available next spring and it will be first come first serve rather than holding plants to be fair to all interested customers.

Lots of pick ups today! I am available for pick ups after 4 pm today, after 6pm Thursday and Friday, Sunday after 2pm. One thing about selling them as soon as we can confirm a bloom is that I don't get to see all the pretty blooms from this year- if you do purchase a plant feel free to post a picture once it blooms on here I would love to see them!

We have had quite a few repeat purchasers this year, which is nice to see hopefully everyone's plants came up nicely this year- the harsh winter may have caused them to come up later or perhaps the root could not produce a plant this year but they could still pop up next year so long as the root is intact! Root is actually more important than the plant on top so don't be deceived if you think your plant isn't too impressive this year (due to the winter) it's what is under the dirt that counts for long term growth!
