The City of Saskatoon has everything you need right on their website. It’s not a huge process, and it exists to protect you as a homeowner.
If you’re planning a renovation — basement, bathroom, kitchen, anything with plumbing or electrical — make sure permits are part of the conversation before any work starts. Ask your contractor. If they brush it off, that’s a red flag.

🚧 This is what no permit on old plumbing actually looks like in real life.
Concrete out. Dirt out. All new plumbing going in — done right, done to current code, and done with a permit this time.
It’s not the cheapest surprise to run into on a basement development, but it’s the only way to do it properly. Cutting corners on permits doesn’t make the problem go away — it just passes it on to the next owner.

🚨 Here’s something every homeowner needs to hear before starting a basement development.

We started demo on a recent project and discovered the existing plumbing had never had a permit pulled — and even though the work probably would have passed back when it was done, that’s not how it works today.

Because so much time has passed, everything now has to meet current code. That means what was “good enough” then isn’t good enough now.
