Sacred Hearth grief support gathering 🌿

This day is for the people who feel heavy or those who want to learn to better support others going through Greif and loss.

You don’t have to have the “right” words.

You don’t have to be okay.

This is our first Greif support gathering and we intend to learn and tweak this group as we continue to host 2-3 of these a year in Sault Ste Marie between our regular events.

You’re welcome exactly as you are.

We’ll be offering
grief-supporting yoga
sharing and learning circles
art for processing and release
small group support
song
reiki
lantern ceremony made from tea bags to honour our loved ones.

This is a space to be witnessed, to exhale, and to remember that you don’t have to carry grief alone.

This gathering is being created with care by a group of local facilitators who work in grief, healing, and community support. We’re grateful to be able to offer this as a gentle, grounded space for those who need it.

If this feels like something your heart could use, you’re welcome to join us.

Registration opens Wednesday February 25th

Email: [email protected]

Please feel free to share this with anyone who may need a soft place to land.

🌿 Save the Date | March 7th 🌿
Sacred Hearth is coming to Sault Ste. Marie.
We’ve been graciously offered a free venue in Sault Ste. Marie to host this gathering, and we’re feeling deeply grateful for the community support that continues to show up around this work.

We’ll be sharing the names of facilitators soon. That part is still unfolding as we confirm possible facilitators, there is space still for anyone who would like to help with this event and we have dates set for future grief support events to be confirmed with the venue.

We are taking care to build this in a way that feels aligned, supported, and grounded.

This gathering something we’re growing into an ongoing offering in SSM. The venue that has been offered to us has expressed a desire to continue supporting Sacred Hearth as this program grows, including hosting us for future gatherings and offering support as we move toward grant funding.

As always, for privacy and safety reasons, we do not disclose locations publicly. Our supporting partner is not seeking recognition, and we are immensely grateful for their humble support and aligned values. The women who attend will know who this supporting partner is and what they have done for us 🩷

More details coming soon.

Thank you to my dear friend Lynn Marie Brazeau of Journey Through the Stars for allowing me to share our photo with this important message. I love you.

This photo represents more than bags of clothing.
It represents care, dignity, and community in action.
Across North America, millions of people struggle to access clean, weather-appropriate clothing. Clothing insecurity is a quiet but serious issue, especially for people experiencing housing instability, poverty, or crisis. Clean clothes affect health, employment opportunities, confidence, and basic human dignity.
At the same time, roughly 12 million tonnes of clothing are thrown away in North America every year. Studies estimate that up to 95% of those textiles could be reused or recycled, yet they end up in landfills instead. In the U.S. alone, over 11 million tons of textile waste are discarded annually.
Fast-fashion culture plays a major role in this. The average North American buys far more clothing than they actually wear. Many garments are worn only 7–10 times before being discarded, and the average person throws away over 80 pounds of clothing each year. Perfectly usable items are often forgotten, unworn, or treated as disposable.
When we slow down, step away from excessive big-box consumption, and choose community-based solutions instead, the impact is real: • Less waste in landfills
• Reduced environmental harm
• Increased access to basic needs
• Stronger, more connected communities
• Support rooted in dignity rather than profit
This is what happens when people choose to care for each other directly.
Thank you to the beautiful, generous community that has donated to this cause and believes in what we are doing.
Thank you to those who support the wellness of our people and the desire to meet equality and access to basic human needs. Without you, this wouldn’t exist.
Your participation is proof that this is real and important.
Thank you for everything. 🤍

Meaghan Kent is always doing amazing things!!! We are so lucky to have you in our community bringing your light with you everywhere you go and to everyone who you encounter 🩷

In between shooting 40 weddings this past year and keeping up with my regular day-to-day photoshoots, I managed to do something I've always wanted to do: write a novel.

Writing has and will always be my first love in life.

For as long as I can remember, I've been writing stories. I used to sit in my little twin bed, writing tales of adventure in binders on lined paper in blue and black ink. They never amounted to much. And no one ever read them. But it was in that little girl's twin bed that my biggest dream in life was born: to be a published novelist.

In Grade 10, I told my art teacher I wanted to be a writer. And from there on, I worked hard to perfect my craft.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts Honours in History and English Literature from Algoma University, and then my Master of Arts in History from Western U. I was awarded a prestigious SSHRC Scholarship for my thesis work.

After school, I became the first-ever writer for Algoma University. I used my spare time to freelance, writing for other platforms, including the now shuttered Northern Hoot, to make a name for myself as an investigative journalist in the north.

While I loved the work, I was stuck writing in the formulaic templates of press releases and media releases, or telling stories that didn't speak to me. It wasn't as creative as I wanted it to be.

I fell in love with photography and opened Meaghan Kent Photography, INC. in 2016. Photography has allowed me to express that creative side of me that has been yearning to explode.

Well, this past year, I found myself longing for my pen again. Recalling fond memories of my binder and those lined-papered stories of my childhood. It was finally time to realize that lifelong dream of mine: become a published author.

I've been working hard editing my novel, pitching the story to Canadian agents in hopes of getting a traditional publishing deal, even though the odds of getting such a contract are stacked against me. If I have to, I will go the indie publishing route.

Yesterday, I signed a deal with a Canadian-based editor to complete an editorial analysis of my novel to get it ready for copy and developmental editing to further it in the process of getting it published.

Not a single soul has read this novel yet (other than agents who have received a few chapters). It's weird, I have been writing all of my life, and my writing has appeared in many places, including in Maclean's and The Globe and Mail. But something about this novel feels incredibly personal. Like I'm being exposed on such a level and stripped bare for everyone to see. I'm scared. Terrified. But so excited.

Any what's the novel about? Well, it takes place on Manitoulin Island. And it blends the genres of romance and women's fiction. That's about all I'm willing to share for the time being.

I hope you will join me as I chase my childhood dream of becoming an author. I'll be sharing my journey toward getting my debut novel published on my new Instagram account, .meaghan.kent.
