Monarch sighting in Schomberg……
This fantastic display is brought to the community by the incredibly artistic volunteers of the Schomberg Horticultural Society, Carol Rettinger and Eleonora Schmied. It was possible because of fundraising efforts, a private donor and the support of King Township. Thank you Zander Sod for the soil.
The Monarch, planted with marigolds, is meant to bring awareness to the blight of pollinators and their loss of habitat. Many pollinator populations are threatened by habitat degradation and fragmentation. Pollution, pesticides, pests, pathogens, and changes in land use.
The native swamp milkw**d in the display (Asclepias incarnata), was donated by Devra Ranieri, she is a ranger with the David Suzuki Butterfly project.
The public is invited to visit the pollinator habitat garden behind this display which features yarrow (Achillea millefolium), butterfly w**d (Asclepias tuberosa), black-eyed Susan’s (Rudbeckia hirta), purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) and many more pollinator friendly plants.
While enjoying this display we ask to please not step into the gardens nor the display. The peonies are also stunning at this time of year.
Name the Monarch; we would like to give the monarch a name, please send your suggestions to [email protected]
