Today was a whole lot of planting. 🌿

My clients removed multiple Boomerang lilacs from their gardens. They are pretty, but they can be very high maintenance and need constant trimming to keep them looking tidy. We replaced them with Incrediball hydrangeas, which have stronger stems than Annabelle hydrangeas while keeping that same beautiful, rounded growth habit.

We also planted a bunch of my annuals throughout the garden to help fill space and add seasonal colour. I get to do this garden every year, and it is always fun watching my plants grow in a client’s space.

Then we were off to the second beautiful garden to plant even more. This is one we cardboarded and mulched last fall, and the difference has been huge. It is always nice seeing those extra steps pay off the next season.

And I have to say, the pink dianthus might be my favourite thing to work around right now. It smells like cotton candy or bubble gum, and honestly, that makes garden work just a little sweeter. 🌸

Today started with a little bittersweet garden clean.

The first gardens will be the last time we clean them, as the house has sold and the new owners move in soon. I think it was super awesome of the current owners to have the gardens cleaned up before the new ones take possession. We aren’t strangers to these gardens, we’ve been coming here for the past few years whenever we’re called in, usually right around this time of year.

From there, it was off to a few more garden cleans, including one where we planted a bunch of our annuals. She does this every year, and her garden is perfect for them because so many of mine are tall-growing flowers for cut bouquets. It’s always such a great feeling getting to plant my own plants in clients’ gardens and then watch them grow through the season.

And to end the day, Izzy and I stopped to help save a snapping turtle outside our house. Thankfully, a few other good Samaritans stopped too, because I wasn’t totally sure what to do with that angry little dinosaur. Izzy got a very quick lesson in just how fast a snapping turtle can snap. 😂

He is now safely across the road and happily in our ditch.

Today was one of those full, beautiful garden days. 🌿

Not to hot, not to cold, clouded skies.

I started my morning at a gorgeous property getting the gardens cleaned up and ready for a wedding this month. Lots of weeding, annual planting, mulching, and cleaning up the stone steps so everything is fresh, tidy, and photo-ready for the bride and groom.

There is something extra special about preparing gardens for an important day. Every little detail matters, the walkway, the blooms, the edges, the little hidden corners where someone might stop for a photo or a quiet moment. Gardens already hold so much beauty, but getting them ready for a wedding makes it feel even more meaningful.

After that, I was off to another beautiful garden not too far away for more of the usual garden work, weeding, tidying, checking things over, and enjoying the views. Today was also one of those days where I got to spend time chatting and working alongside clients, and honestly, that is one of my favourite parts of this job. You get to know the people behind the gardens, and they get to know us too.

And of course, the gardens were showing off today. Stone pathways, blooming irises, peonies, alliums, poppies, yarrow, rock gardens, wide open views, and all those little details that make you stop and take a photo.

Now if only we had gotten more rain last night. The gardens loved what they got, but they definitely could have used more. 🌧️

A full day of weeds, flowers, stone steps, wedding prep, good clients, and gorgeous views.

I love a rainy night… and so did the gardens. 🌧️🌿

There’s just something about the way the garden looks after a good rain, the colours deepen, the leaves perk up, and every little detail seems to shine.

This beautiful bearded iris was showing off after the rain, covered in droplets and looking absolutely stunning. Gardens are always changing, always surprising, and always reminding us to slow down and notice the beauty right in front of us.

Rainy nights make happy gardens. 💜

We started our morning in Orangeville today, tucked into a beautiful wooded garden that always feels so peaceful to work in.

There’s something about weeding under mature trees, listening to the pond running in the background, that makes the hard work feel a little softer.

The pond wasn’t running the last time we were there, so hearing it today while Isabella worked quietly on her school was honestly so soothing.

This garden has such a gorgeous woodland feel, and I personally think it would be stunning with even more hostas and shade-loving plants tucked throughout to help fill the space and keep the weeds from creeping back in. A “work with nature” kind of garden tucked in the middle of Orangeville.

After that, we were off to our next stop, which just happened to be the first client’s grandma’s house. I love when my work stays in the family like that. I’m lucky to have quite a few clients where I end up helping parents, grandparents, neighbours, and friends. It’s a pretty special feeling.

At the second property, we weeded, planted some new plants I had suggested a couple weeks ago, and finished it all off with two yards of mulch. Fresh mulch really does have a way of making everything look finished and cared for.

Then it was off to Alton Greenhouses & Garden Centre to pick up plants for another client’s garden I’ll be working on Friday. We’re adding more colour into her established beds, and honestly, that makes me happy. I love colour in a gardens, whether it comes from flowers, foliage, texture, or contrast.

Gardens should have life and movement and little surprises everywhere you look.

I also stopped to look at one more garden thinking it might be a quick one-hour evening job… and quickly realized nope, that one is getting scheduled for next week. Definitely more of a “come find the plants” kind of garden. Hide and seek, garden edition. 😂

A full, beautiful, busy day, with gardens, greenhouses, mulch, pond sounds, and Isabella along for the ride. 🌿

Garden views have a way of stopping me mid-job.

One minute I’m covered in mulch, focused on the work, and the next I look up and nature has quietly arranged the most beautiful little scene.

The deep green of the cedars, the soft red of the Japanese maple, the ferns tucked underneath like they’ve always belonged there, it’s colour, texture, and calm all layered together.

These are the moments I love most about gardening.

Not just the finished beds, but the little views you only notice when you’re right in the middle of caring for them. 🌿🍁
