Taller plants like sunflowers and tomato need to be staked up to grow properly. Bamboo stakes are an excellent way to provide them the support they need. They can be used to create trellises or teepee frames for plants that climb like peas, beans and cucumbers. You can also take a few of them and attach them together to create a trellis for climbing flower vines too. Stakes can also be used to mark your garden rows and identify each one.
Bamboo stakes can also be used to support shade cloth or insect netting to protect your plants from bugs.
Only $5.99 for a 25 pack of 4 foot stakes.
Give your plants the support they need to grow.

When watering your plants from the top, make sure that the entire surface of the soil is getting wet. Try not to just pour the water in one spot. The roots of your plant grow around the entire surface of the container it's growing in. Make sure that you water it thoroughly so the entire root ball is getting wet. Give your plant a deep drink of water and not just a sip every few days. Allow the soil to dry out well before watering again.

Microgreens can be grown at home. No supply chain, no packaging, no carbon footprint and most importantly....no mystery. When you grow it yourself you know exactly how it was grown and how old it is. They deliver big flavor and have more concentrated nutrients than their full grown counterparts.
Grocery store produce can sit around for weeks before it gets to your table. By the time it is picked, packaged and travels to your store, weeks can pass. By that time it has lost a lot of its flavor, crispness as well as its nutritional value.
With minimal space and effort you can grow them at a fraction of the cost in grocery stores right on your window sill in a small container.
Start to eat better. Enjoy healthy, nutritious, clean organic food grown by you.
Stop into the shop and I will give you a quick lesson on how to do it yourself.

Roots are the foundation of your plant. They are essential for survival and growth, providing several vital functions like anchor and stability. Roots need oxygen as much as water. Symptoms of root rot are yellow leaves, declined growth and smelly soil. This happens because the roots are not able to work properly and cannot take up the nutrients it needs to survive. It's not that you are giving your plant too much water. A towel can only absorb so much water. The same thing applies to your soil. The problem is that you are not letting it dry out long enough before you water it again. The soil is staying too wet leaving no oxygen for the roots. A soil that has bark, perlite, leca, or coco chips in it stops the soil from becoming compacted. These items in the soil create air pockets that fill up when you water and then dry out creating a balance of water and air for the roots ensuring their survival.
It's not that you're watering too much, it's that you're not letting it dry out enough before you water it again. Use a moisture meter, wooden chopstick, your finger or learn the pot weight and check the soil first before watering.

Do you own an orchid and are struggling to keep it alive. Here are some tips that may help.

1. Check what type of medium your orchid is growing in. If it's bark, make sure that you soak it down long enough for the bark to absorb the water. Allow it to soak for about 20 minutes in room temperature water.

2. If it's growing in moss, keep in mind that moss holds a lot of moisture so don't soak it down the same way. Water it slowly with room temperature water until the moss is damp. Bottom watering can help.

Bark is the most preferred medium because it dries out faster and the roots get more air flow.

When you water them, the roots will change colour from silver/grey to a bright green. That's how you can tell that they're hydrated. Don't water it until those roots turn silver/grey again.

One last thing....yes it's a controversial subject but please no ice cubes. This is a simple marketing scheme by the growers for an easy way to water them. It is a pre measured way they suggest to prevent overwatering. The ice cube method lasts long enough for the orchid to finish its bloom period, after this point most people discard it assuming it's dead. They suggest using 3 cubes, but how big is the orchid, how much medium is it in, and what medium type? What about fertilizer?
The ice melts slowly and does not soak the entire medium leaving dry spots that don't hydrate the entire root zone.
Ice should never be placed directly on the leaves, roots or in the crown. You would never place an ice cube on your arm and leave it there for hours to melt, why would you do it to your orchid?
They do not see ice in their lifetime where they grow.

A customer fell in love with my planter and found one similar to mine while out shopping. She asked me to re-create it for her granddaughter's upcoming birthday. I enjoyed working on this project.
I think I did a pretty good job.

I've been asked to work on a few projects lately. Yesterday a customer brought in this display bowl. She wanted the old moss removed and replaced with soil and new plants to freshen it up. Love that little bunny that hangs on the side.
I think she's going to like it.

Coleus are one the most underrated colorful plants you can add to your garden. It is important to note that the flowers should be pinched off to direct the plants energy back into making the lush vibrant foliage instead of making flowers. When some plants flower, it is an indication to the plant that their lifecycle is coming to an end. If you want to have Coleus well into the fall, as soon as you see the flowers pinch them off. This will maintain that vibrant colour and size your looking for. Every stem you pinch will produce two new branches creating a bushy, colourful and dense plant.
