Does anyone else get the urge to completely reinvent their home every spring?

New furniture. New paint. New everything.

The funny thing is, the spaces that feel the freshest usually don’t come from massive changes. They come from a handful of thoughtful ones.

When a room feels off, adding more is rarely the answer. In fact, one of the first things we often do is remove things. The heavy winter layers. The overflowing cupboard you’ve been ignoring. The corner that somehow became a storage zone over the last few months.

Spring is the perfect reminder that homes need breathing room too. Before bringing in new decor or seasonal accessories, take a look around and ask yourself what no longer needs to be there. You might be surprised how much calmer, lighter, and more inviting a space can feel. From there, a few carefully chosen seasonal updates can go a long way.

I’ve put together some simple tips for refreshing your home this spring over on the blog. Read the full article through the link in bio.

Entryways have a surprisingly important job. They’re the first thing you see when you walk in, but they also tend to collect everything that comes home with you. Shoes, bags, jackets, keys, dog leashes… real life happens here.

For The Qathet Project, we wanted this space to feel beautiful without becoming precious. More importantly, we wanted it to support those everyday moments that happen at the front door.

A place to drop your keys, tuck away the things that tend to accumulate, and transition from the outside world into the comfort of home.

Save this for entryway inspiration.

I’m convinced people don’t actually want big ensuites as much as they want ones that feel nice to be in. Proper storage, enough warmth that the space doesn’t feel cold at 7am, and finishes that still feel calming at the end of a long day.

Michel told us she wanted “a home they genuinely wanted to spend time in,” since they both work from home, so creating spaces that felt relaxing and easy to live in became a huge priority throughout the project.

I think that’s why this ensuite works so well for them. It feels relaxed and elevated, while still being practical for everyday too.

It’s always special seeing a project recognized like this, especially one that was designed so intentionally.

From the beginning, this home was about balance. Bringing together two very different styles in a way that still felt cohesive, warm, and easy to live in. Every space was designed to support real life. Hosting family and friends, slower mornings, busy weekdays, and all the little moments that happen at home in between.

We’re incredibly honoured to see this project recognized with two Georgie Awards this year.

Best Primary Suite Under $125,000
Custom Home Valued $2M–$3M

A huge thank you to our wonderful clients and the incredible team who helped bring it all together.

Saturday night was the Western Canada Design Excellence awards and we were honored to win Best Medium Traditional Kitchen for our Turner Project!

While we've entered projects the past few year and have been fortunate enough to win some of the categories, this year was different. ADBI didn't just enter projects this year, back in December I joined our local chapter as the programs chair (aka event planner). I was somewhat reluctant at first but you can't really say no to and I'd been looking for a way to network more, so what better way than be an event planner for local industry events. After all, when you're an event planner, attending the events is kind of mandatory...

But joining the local chapter has been much more than simply planning events and networking. I've truly immersed myself in getting to met new people, whether it be other designers, suppliers or contractors, and most importantly, I've made new friends.

So this years' awards were different. Rather than simply being a finalist and showing up to the event, I got to plan it all with our amazing team. From the table settings, to the ballons, food, photo ops and the certificates themselves, it was all a team effort.

The cherry on top was getting to hand deliver certificates to all the amazing finalist and winners during the event, highlighting all the talent in our industry.

Bringing the night together wouldn't have been possible without all of our generous sponsors and volunteers, thank you all for your time & efforts.
Thank you to all the designers, vendors, contractors, friends and family that came to support our design community.

After clean up (or strike as calls it in the event planning world) we ended the night at the Casino, with espresso martinis (if you know me well you know these are my fave), dancing to Latin music (also one of faves), so ya, it was a pretty great night.

I'm grateful for this community we're building.

Our next event is on June 16th at where Betsy of will teach us Interior designers how to master process, I'd love to see you there. Link in bio for tickets.

I think dressing rooms are one of those spaces people underestimate until they have one that actually functions well for them.

There’s something really nice about starting and ending your day in a space that feels calm and organized, especially when life feels busy everywhere else.

For our Haven Project clients, we wanted their dressing room to feel beautiful and relaxed. Lots of storage, softer finishes, and enough warmth that it feels genuinely nice to spend time in. And honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the window seat quickly becomes the favourite spot for a quiet moment… or 30.

One thing I notice a lot with clients is that sometimes the house itself is fine, but it doesn’t fully feel like them yet.

That was a big part of this project. The setting was right, but the spaces were missing some of the warmth, character, and comfort they were craving for their family.

It’s amazing how much differently a home feels once the space starts reflecting the people living in it.

When these clients moved to Lynn Valley, they weren’t just looking for a new house. They were craving a quieter pace of life and a home that would better support the way they actually live day to day.

One of the biggest shifts happened here in the kitchen. They wanted the space to feel open and connected, but still warm and calming to spend time in. Somewhere that could handle busy mornings, working from home, casual dinners, and weekends with family and friends without ever feeling too formal.

I think that’s what makes a home feel personal in the end. Not just how it looks, but how naturally life happens inside it.

I think one of the biggest misconceptions about interior design is that people are chasing a certain “look.” But in my experience, people are actually craving a home that makes life feel better.

They want mornings to feel less chaotic, spaces that feel calmer to walk into at the end of the day, and a home that supports the way they actually live instead of constantly working around it.

And honestly, I think that’s when people feel happiest at home. When the space truly works for them. Not just visually, but practically and emotionally too.

That’s one of the parts of design I care about most.
