A quick little paint job to update this stairwell. Clients wanted the same vibe but in more on trend colours. We swapped the boring beige for a white and the tired dark brown for a more dramatic black to match colours used elsewhere in their home. The accent wall is home to a very large piece of art which will no doubt pop against its new black backdrop.

*SNEAK PEEK* Do you ever have a vision of how you want something to turn out and then you are done and stand back and think ‘this is not it’ This beam threw me for a loop when it pulled very warm with a Special Walnut stain applied… I was not loving it and hoped Dark Walnut would fix it…
IT DID NOT!! Ahhhhhh!
Clients loved it, but I knew it could be better, and was reluctant to just leave it because in truth I hated it for them. So… I sanded it back leaving all the dark nooks and crannies and focused on toning down the reds and oranges in the wood. I mixed Weathered Oak with a splash of Dark Walnut to deepen it and voila!! The Dark tones will compliment their flooring nicely and the warmth will pop against the new black surround, while tying together other wood finishes in their home. I am so happy I was able to figure this out and not at all mad that it meant popping over to apply some clear coat on a Sunday afternoon. It is worth every minute to deliver something I am proud of!!

The other day I posted to my stories regarding International Women’s day and a contest running on FM 96. I also posted a list of local female-owned businesses. And do you know what the best response to that post was? A local male business owner reaching out to tell me how many female owners he has worked with, and how amazing he thinks it is to see that shift away from ‘the good ol’ boys club.’
One thing I have noticed in this small town is how supportive businesses are of one another. And there are a lot of female owned businesses in Ingersoll. They say ‘Empowered women empower women’ and it could not be more evident here!!
But that is really only one facet of what March 8th represents. It’s true, women’s rights have come a long way since Emmeline Pankhurst and the suffragette movement. But there are still women everywhere fighting for equity. Today isnt just about celebrating our achievements, its about the disparities in human rights, equal pay, bodily autonomy and discrimination that still exist.
Women may have started the movement, but I think gender is irrelevant when it comes to wanting what is best for human-kind. Feminism isn’t just for women, real men are feminists too!!

After a but if a hiccup I am finally getting paint on these walls and the project is gaining momentum! The homeowners have chosen to go with BM Simply White throughout with accent walls in each bedroom to add personality. I will keep you updated as things start to come together.

Remember the wall with 20 million nail holes?? Here’s a little before and after. Colour matched the previous paint job and after all the patching we just gave it a couple fresh coats, and painted out the wood baseboards in a bright white. A fresh start to a new school year for this teenager!
