Small Pantries, Thoughtful Design ✨

A pantry doesn’t have to be a large space to make a difference in how a home functions. It’s about making thoughtful use of the space available and considering how it’s going to be used every day.

Storage is certainly an important part of any pantry, but it doesn’t always have to be about fitting in as much as possible. Open shelving can create a more accessible and inviting space, while incorporating something like seating adds another dimension to how the pantry could be used. It’s a great example of how custom cabinetry can be tailored to suit the individual needs of a family, rather than simply following a standard layout.

It’s about finding that balance between practical storage, thoughtful design and the little details that make a space work for the people using it.

Celebrating community, connection and belonging 🌟

For the third year, we’ve had the pleasure of contributing to the Hope Bridges Society Harmony Award alongside local artist Connie Kopp. This year’s artwork, Making Connections, is a beautiful painted quilt celebrating the importance of community and the relationships we build along the way. Through its vibrant colours, colourful maple leaves and quilt-inspired design, the painting reflects how different people, backgrounds and experiences come together to create something meaningful.

Our contribution was a custom wooden frame, crafted to complement Connie’s artwork while allowing the painting and its message to remain the focus. A heartfelt congratulations to the Wilson family, this year’s Harmony Award recipients. We’re grateful to play a small part in celebrating the people and connections that make our community so special.

HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT 👀

Not everything is quite as it seems!

At first glance, just another row of shaker pantry cabinets in this contemporary kitchen. But look a little closer.

What appears to be a pair of pantry doors is actually one concealed entrance, pivoting inward to reveal a hidden lounge tucked away from the rest of the home.

Thoughtful design and craftsmanship coming together to create something a little unexpected.

The Next Chapter in the Apprenticeship Journey! 🔨

Friday marked Chase’s last day at Southern Stars for 2026 as he heads off to SAIT for his second year of trade school!

Over the past 10 months, we’ve seen plenty of growth. From finding his feet on the shop floor to developing new skills in the spray booth and getting hands-on experience on-site with installations, there’s been plenty of learning along the way.

He’s also embraced the challenge of stepping in front of the camera to share his journey on social media, something that doesn’t come naturally to everyone.

One of Chase’s personal highlights was the memorial steamer trunk, a very special piece created for a family in memory of their late son. He took ownership of the project through construction and finishing and saw it through to the final handover.

It’s a project he still talks about with pride, and rightly so. A reminder that our craft is about so much more than what we build. It’s about the meaningful impact we can have on people’s lives.

Along the way, there have been wins to celebrate, mistakes made, challenges faced, plenty of lessons learned and some fun along the way! That’s all part of the apprenticeship journey. It’s not about getting everything right the first time, but being willing to ask questions, learn from mistakes and keep improving.

Learning when to slow down, ask questions and understand the bigger picture is all part of becoming a skilled tradesperson. And as we always say, it’s important to celebrate the wins, big and small!

Wishing Chase all the best as he heads back to SAIT for his second year of trade school. We’re looking forward to welcoming him back in 2027, ready to hit the ground running and take that next step as a second-year cabinetmaking apprentice!

Customized to suit this family’s needs, this garbage and recycling drawer features two 29 litre bins side by side for easy access to both.

Handy storage underneath keeps spare bags close by, while a matching hard rock maple interior and our standard heavy duty soft close slides bring it all together. The drawer fronts are still to come but the workings are ready to go!

Finished in Sherwin Williams Iron Ore, this kitchen island creates a striking contrast against the Frost White perimeter cabinetry.

Crisp shaker details, push-to-open doors and beautifully paneled ends bring character to the design. Topped with white quartz and an overhang for seating, it’s a functional centerpiece with room for everyone to gather, share stories and enjoy the little moments that make a house feel like home.
