Amazing how much lumber you can get out of 2 monster logs. Typically I don’t do the whole log to lumber thing but when someone says they have a big tree they want me to mill, I rarely say “no”. This customer had a very particular cut list for these cedars; from 2x4 to 8x8 and even a 6x12 beam. Biggest challenge of this log was the 15 nails and 1 lag bolt I milled. I wonder what the retail value of this lumber package is?? 🤔

Biggest log yet on the mill. At 22 feet long by 33-42” wide I figure this cedar will yield about 1200 board feet! Just massive; had to have it craned onto the mill. I thought maybe a couple of my kids could bring perspective to this log! I always enjoy milling cedar, who doesn’t like the smell?!?

Well that’s a first. Customer bought a slab and wanted it right away; no truck, no trailer ??..... no problem he says, “on the roof”. After telling him several times this might not be the best idea, he wanted to go for it. It actually went a lot smoother than I thought. Customer is always right I guess 😂.

Yep, sawing logs can be messy. So much sawdust everywhere! Oddly satisfying slow motion video though.

There’s something to celebrate. An epoxy pour with no leaks; not even a drop!!! Finally. 😂 This was a 2” pour using Chemtec’s 2” Chemcraft epoxy. If you need some epoxy, let me know, I’m a distributor for Chemtec. I carry their top coat, 1”, 2”, and 3” epoxy!

Only the most qualified are allowed to help on my projects 😉. And get this.... she’s sanding with a smile, how many of us do that?!?! There’s a lesson to be learned here! So cute 🥰. Love her to pieces.

Sound on for best effect. If you’ve ever removed bark before, this will be a very satisfying video. Love the draw knife.

Just a big Maple crotch I milled this weekend. It might not be the best quality log ever, but it did yield some pretty cool slabs; single slab desks or kitchen tables. And then my mill found 8 nails; that kinda ruined the excitement. But, that’s urban logs for you. Win some, lose some.

The photo does not do it justice, but here’s a giant slab! At 18’4” long, 4” thick, and 36-46” wide this is definitely the biggest slab by volume I’ve milled to date (250 board feet). I would stand it up vertically to really give perspective, but that sounds like a sketchy and time consuming task. I have no idea what I’m going to do with this slab, but it’s incredible! What do you think? Maybe someone has a project for a slab of this size!?!? Everything is for sale!

Finally! This table posed a few challenges along the way, but I’m really happy with how it turned out! At just over 8 feet long and 40” wide there is plenty of room for family and friends! I was honoured to be asked to build this for some good friends! It’s always a rewarding process taking a tree all the way through to a finished table!

I’m having flashbacks from 25 years ago as I watch my son tackle this cherry blossom. I think he’s programmed very similarly to me; just wouldn’t stop till he was done. There might be more wood cutting in his future. 😂😂😎😎
