The great raking leaves controversy. If you need to rake leaves off your grass, rake them into your gardens or compost, pile up to use for compost next year or ask a community garden if they need them.

This fall, let your rake collect only dust. Can't leave all of your leaves where they fall? Here are a few other ideas.

The garden is doing its job! There were lots of bees foraging, several bumblebees, some honeybees and a few little guys who flew so fast I couldn’t get their picture.

Fall colour at the canoe and a resting bee.
Remember to leave stems for the winter. Bees 🐝 need the hollow pithy stems for nesting and the seeds provide food for birds.

All of the work of babying seedlings, hauling soil and transplanting plants is rewarded with these tiny little creatures. My first two this year, I couldn't be happier.

I did some math...and it is well over 300 Native Plants that I have purchased, grown from seed or transplanted this year. Here are some of the plants I have added to some spaces I have been refurbishing and clearing invasive species from.
I would love to see how your plants are growing. Share some pictures of your Native Plant gardens.
Come and visit me tomorrow at the Canoe Garden at the Link in Sutton from 10am to noon. I have some Swamp Milkweed seedlings and some seeds to hand out.

Our first Come and Visit Day was another success. We had 111 people come through and check out the garden. More plants were sent to new homes and I talked so much about Native Plants that my voice was hoarse. The message is getting out. If you haven't checked it out yet go by the Link anytime or come next Sunday 10-12. Not sure if I will have any more free plants, but I still have some seeds.

Thanks to donations we have been able to purchase more plants. See you Sunday 10 am-12 pm, to check out the canoe, talk about native plants and choose a free plant (while quantities last). Looking forward to seeing you.

What a wonderful day at our canoe opening, we had over 90 people come by to check it out and talk about Native Plants. The cake was beautiful thanks to Sobey's. We gave away a lot of plants. And we had a visitor, a swallowtail caterpillar...this is why we did this!
