OUR STORY
Kwan's Greenhouse is a family owned business and has been serving the community for over 55 years. The greenhouse was established by the late Mr. Chow Kwan when he came to Canada in 1953 to join his father Charles Hing Kwan in Swift Current. Together they established a market garden and greenhouse business which was then known as Southside Gardens. Chow Kwan,
along with his wife, May Jean Kwan loved the greenhouse business and took tremendous pride in their work. Chow provided the community of Swift Current with beautiful flowers for 40 years until his death in 1996. They supplied potatoes, cabbages, onions, corn and carrots to Macdonald Consolidated and Scott National Wholesalers. He worked very hard all his life to provide a better life for his family. He had many friends and loyal customers who returned year after year. In 1953 the market garden was on South Railway Street by the old Husky gas station. In 1958 May Jean (wife) and Frank (son) came to join him from China. They moved to the present location in 1965 and bought an existing greenhouse consisting of 2 sections and the field across the way. The business is now located close to the river on the south east side of Swift Current and is operated by Willie Kwan and his wife, Cecile Beaudoin-Kwan, along with the help of his mother, May Jean. In 2000 the 1st greenhouse was torn down and rebuilt. In 2002 the second greenhouse was rebuilt and in 2005 the third greenhouse was rebuilt. The renovations were done to modernize the greenhouses to deliver the best quality product for many years to come. We now concentrate on spring sales which include annual, perennial, Proven Winners, vegetables, succulents, as well as a wide variety of decorative planters & hanging baskets. We are locally owned and operated. We hire local people to accomplish our goal of making Swift Current a more beautiful place to live in. We have supported our community by sponsoring places like SPCA, Mother Earth Run, Relay For Life and various other charities by donating flowers, planters or Gift Certificates. We provide tours to local kindergarten classes so they too can share in knowledge and love of gardening.
