One of the simplest ways to make a large landscape feel organized is by dividing the space into clear use zones.

Think of your property like a collection of outdoor rooms:

✅Arrival spaces near the driveway
✅Living areas for outdoor dining and seating
✅Play zones for recreation

This approach helps large landscapes feel intentional instead of scattered.

Anemone sylvestris | Snowdrop Anemone 🤍

A late spring to early summer bloomer, this dainty perennial thrives in partial shade and works beautifully as a ground cover or along borders.

White flowers float above foliage on long stems before giving way to ornamental woolly seed heads that extend the interest beyond bloom season. Cutting those back will often reward you with a second show!

Anemone syvestris is one of our favourite low-maintenance performers because they are nearly disease and pest free, deer and rabbit resistant, thrive in both sandy and clay soils commonly found in our area, and they spread well for those who like a full garden bed, but are easy to contain if preferred.

Thanks to who took some of the best photos of the seed pods we've seen online!

What’s one of the biggest mistakes in landscape design?

Planting without a plan.

A well-designed landscape considers how plants will grow over time, how water moves across the property, and how different outdoor spaces connect together.

When everything is designed holistically, your garden becomes more beautiful and easier to maintain.

Not every property is flat, perfectly shaped, or easy to design. That’s a good thing.

Unique properties create opportunities for:
🍃Raised garden beds & retaining walls
🍃Natural stone pathways
🍃Hidden seating areas
🍃Layered planting designs

The key is creating a landscape plan that works with your property’s natural shape and character.

Before choosing plants or building patios, spend time simply observing your property. Important questions to ask yourself include:

🍃Where does the sun hit in the morning?
🍃Where does rainwater collect?
🍃Which areas stay shady all day?

These small details can completely change how a landscape should be designed and they’re often the difference between a garden that struggles and one that thrives.

Designing a landscape for a unique property isn’t about forcing a standard layout - it’s about understanding what your land naturally wants to do.

A great landscape plan looks at things like:

✔️Sun exposure
✔️Drainage patterns
✔️Soil conditions
✔️Existing trees and slopes

When you work with your property instead of against it, your garden becomes easier to maintain and more beautiful over time.
