The architecture in Toronto has changed vastly since the year 2000. Built from glass and steel, modern condo buildings have filled city centre and have made an organic fit into the general landscape.
The simple geometric lines and shapes of two-story homes came to replace those of the Victorian era. When did this modern architectural trend begin? Who was at the source of these new and straight-forward geometrical standards in home construction?
This kind of style is commonly referred to as "Bauhaus" and was the progeny of a German architect by the name of Walter Gropius.

This was a small and neglected house that has never been renovated. It was not even a diamond in the rough. How would you breathe a new life into this unkempt piece of construction perched right in the middle of a linked-house neighborhood?
SwissBach Decorating Services Inc was to do a full improvement project for this house under a limited budget.
First, we have installed a new roof. For that. we have used Bogdan’s company. It turned out to be a great and reliable partnership, as always.
The beautiful windows and doors were replaced by “Alma Windows & Doors” of Vaughan who was recently nominated as the Top Window & Door Company of 2019 (https://www.almawindows.com/doors/sliding-patio-doors/).
The garage door was ordered at Home Depot. Due to incorrect measurements, the delivery was significantly delayed. Nevertheless, everything has worked out and the end result was absolutely thrilling.
Small necessary accessories such as metal light fixtures and a nickel-brushed mailbox topped the budget for the exterior.
As for the interior, the idea was to go the modern-minimalist route by leveraging on the not-so-attractive ceiling and wall bulkheads to our advantage. No more boring, hacked-together, crown moldings and wainscotting!
SwissBach Decorating Services Inc also removed a sliding door from the kitchen since there were two of those on the first floor. We closed the opening in the wall and used the new wall for additional kitchen cabinets to maximize storage space.
The kitchen was done by our friend and partner Michael from “Exclusive Designs” ([email protected]).
We have also demolished two kitchen walls. As a result, the main floor gained more space and countless new decorating possibilities opened up.
To top it all off, we have installed an accent wall for a big screen TV and an electric fireplace. The dark grey color for the stone was chosen as a contrast to the light Silver Satin (OC 26) colored walls. Lastly, trim and doors were painted with Chantilly Lace (OC 65).
The final result turned out absolutely amazing. Watch the video for the "before" and "after".

The house is located in downtown Toronto. This piece of junk was supposed to be transformed into a decent cozy modern home. The renovation was finally done by SwissBach Decorating Services Inc a few years ago. The house received a new look and positive energy.

Another project in Aurora, ON. The old kitchen and floor was replaced. The wallpaper and old faux finished wainscoting that had been beautifully installed a long time ago by SwissBach was now removed.
A house renovation that transformed a small dull boring space into a shiny and optimistic home.
