Not all fences are built for Ontario winters, wet springs and temperature swings. Here’s what tends to hold up best over time:

Pressure-treated wood → affordable and durable with proper maintenance
Cedar → beautiful look, naturally resistant to rot and insects
Vinyl → low maintenance and won’t rot, but quality matters in cold temps
Horizontal privacy fences → modern look, but need strong posts and proper spacing for wind Metal/aluminum → great durability with minimal upkeep

The biggest factor? Installation.

Even the best materials won’t last if the posts, drainage and footings aren’t done properly.
A fence should survive more than one season.
