There’s a moment every spring when the house begins to open up again.

Doors stay open a little longer and spaces extend beyond four walls.

This corner was once an empty stretch along the back fence line - there, but not really part of how the home was lived in.

So we gave it a purpose.

Designed as an extension of the house, it now feels like an outdoor room - defined, considered, and easy to move into throughout the day.

A place to sit, to gather, and to spend time without needing to think about it.

It doesn’t feel added on.

It feels like it was always meant to be here.

It’s easy to blur the lines between what it means to design, and what it means to decorate.

But they serve very different, but harmonious, roles.

Design shapes how a space functions - the layout, the flow, how it’s experienced day to day.

Decor brings in the final layer -  warmth, personality, and detail.
Both matter.

But the spaces that feel the best are usually the ones where the design was decided - first.

Hard to summarize in 20 pics (out of 3,267) what an incredible week in Italy we just had.

An enormous thank you to .toronto & for taking the (majority of the) PMD team on the trip of a lifetime.

From the stone yards in Verona to Design Week in Milan to a surprise day trip to Lake Como, we packed in more than I could have imagined and squeezed every ounce out of a bucket list trip.

We’ll be sharing so much more with you over the coming weeks, so stay tuned ✨

Good design can also be invisible…

Coming to life in decisions that don’t immediately draw attention, but shape how a home is experienced every day.

Our favourite example?

A laundry room exactly where it needs to be: central to the bedrooms and just off the primary.

A small decision, but one that changes the rhythm of daily life.

Because when a home works well, you don’t always notice why.

But you can feel it.

One of our favourite projects, and favourite clients.

Cedarline always had that design chemistry that we love from the start…

“Working with Parris and her team was everything we needed and more. From the moment we met Parris, things clicked, she got us and our style, and brought a unique perspective and expertise to our project.

We renovated our entire home and ended up with such an amazing layout, functional spaces and beautiful finishes.

Parris’ partners and support throughout our entire project made all the difference in creating our forever home.”

It’s easy to begin a bathroom renovation thinking about finishes.

The tile.
The stone.
The fixtures.

But the spaces that feel the best are usually resolved long before those decisions are made.

The layout.
The way the room flows.
How it’s used, day to day.

Once that’s right, everything else has a place to follow.

Some designs take shape quietly, and originally, this space felt a little undefined.

Tucked under the roofline, with beautiful angles but no real sense of how it wanted to be used. So we leaned into the architecture.

The angles.

The windows.

The quiet feeling of being slightly removed from the rest of the house.

And built something quietly cosy around it.

A place to sit with a coffee.

To work, slowly.

To read, to think, to spend time.

Layered with pattern, soft colour, and pieces that feel collected over time, the room now feels like it belongs to the house and to the rhythm of whatever takes shape inside it.

Some kitchens are designed to be seen.

Others are designed to be lived in.

This one was always meant to feel like the heart of the home. A space that holds the rhythm of the day, from slow mornings to busy afternoons, and everything in between.

The original layout felt open, but not especially connected. Light was there, but it wasn’t being fully held by the space. So we reworked the kitchen to feel more grounded and intentional.

Cabinetry that wraps the room and creates a sense of enclosure.

A central island that grounds the space with seating and function.

Windows that now feel like a moment to themselves.

And then the layers that make it feel lived in: warm finishes, natural stone, aged brass, and small details that quietly soften the space.

It’s a kitchen that doesn’t ask for attention.

But somehow, it becomes the place everyone gathers anyway, which is exactly what it was designed for.

Have you noticed that the homes that feel the best have the most thoughtful features?

Windows placed exactly where the light is needed most.

Ceiling heights that give a room a little more air and calm.

Doorways that flow from one space to the next.

None of these moves are particularly flashy…

But together they shape the rhythm of a house - how light moves, how rooms connect, and how the home is experienced every day.

Because long before paint colours or furniture come into play, the architecture sets the undertone.

One of our favourite parts of design is watching how a space slowly comes to life through our PMD collaborative process.

And our Senior Creative Designer, Kimberly, has a beautiful instinct for exactly that.

From the very first walkthrough of a home, she has a way of understanding where a project is going, often seeing the finished space before anything has even been drawn.

She brings such a calm confidence to the process with our clients. Gently guiding ideas a little further, encouraging people to step beyond what feels familiar, and uncovering possibilities that make the design feel even more considered, functional, and intentional.

Because of that, the projects she leads continue to grow and evolve in the most beautiful ways.

We are so lucky to have her as part of the PMD studio.
