Introducing Project Purdy Sweet.

This project is especially meaningful for our studio—it’s also a personal project for Sophie and her family. Designing it allowed us to explore ideas we’ve long admired while pushing the level of architectural detail we strive for in our work.

The exterior draws inspiration from Cape Cod shingle style architecture, layered with the deeper tones often found in west coast mountain homes. Traditional forms are paired with a darker palette to create a cottage that feels timeless, warm, and distinctive along the shoreline of Lake Rosseau.

Nearly every surface became an opportunity for detail: flared shingle wall transitions, custom timber brackets, exposed rafter tails, layered trim profiles, semi-solid cedar shake siding, stone veneer, curved rooflines, copper accents, and a custom eyebrow dormer.

It was a fun—but incredibly detailed—design challenge to ensure these elements could be executed properly in construction.

Wraparound covered porches provide architectural relief while serving an important purpose: shading the southwest-facing cottage from the strong afternoon sun.

And beneath the traditional character, the home is grounded in a high-performance, building-science-led design focused on durability, efficiency, and long-term comfort.

This is just the beginning—there’s much more of Project Purdy Sweet to share soon.

Is AI going to take over architecture? No.

There are simply too many factors that go into thoughtful, well-executed design to let that happen.

But it can be a powerful tool in the visualization process.

Here’s an example of how we use AI to enhance our base renderings to make them feel even more realistic. By refining elements like landscape, lighting, and natural detail, we’re able to create images that more closely reflect how a project will actually live within its site.

For our clients, this means seeing their cottage or home in its environment—with the real materials, scale, and setting—long before construction begins.

A clearer vision before the first shovel ever touches the ground.

P.S. Stay tuned for the full reveal of this project coming soon.

Designed for gathering — refined for experience.

In our Bigwin Island project, this custom wine wall anchors the Muskoka room with a moody, speakeasy-inspired presence.

Interestingly, this space was originally planned as a BBQ area. But as the design evolved into a four-season room--no longer divided from the main living space by sliding doors--the BBQ was relocated outdoors and an opportunity emerged.

The result: a tailored wine display that feels intentional, immersive, and far better suited to how the space is truly lived in.

Sometimes the best design decisions happen in the pivot.

Where architecture meets atmosphere.

At dusk, our Barlochan Cottage settles into the landscape overlooking Lake Muskoka.

A transitional retreat defined by contrast, the exterior pairs warm timber accents with dark charcoal cladding and a black metal roof, while ten-foot walls of glass dissolve the boundary between indoors and out.

Modern lines. Natural warmth. Timeless presence.

Quiet luxury, defined by texture and proportion.

In the guest bedroom at our Barlochan Cottage project, 11-foot ceilings clad in white t&g panels create height, rhythm, and architectural depth — proving colour isn’t required to make an impact. Black windows add contrast, while soft white oak furnishings and pale blue textiles bring warmth and ease.

Expansive glazing connects the room to the surrounding landscape, making the view part of the experience.

Refined. Relaxed. Intentional.

Introducing project Mortimer's Boathouse

This three-slip boathouse was designed to mirror the existing cottage while maximizing storage, entertaining space, and comfort.

From custom eyebrow timbers and bespoke copper soffits, to shaded lounge zones made for entertaining, every detail was intentional. Inside, nautical blues and warm timbers were layered around striking Ambrosia marble slabs, with copper accents pulled directly from the stone’s veining.

Finished with a cooling soffit misting system, a lowering swim platform for easy lake access, and a custom kayak winch lift—this boathouse is as functional as it is refined.

Light it up 🔅

Lighting is one of those subtle details that can make or break a design. On this timber cooking porch, we combined functional pot lights for outdoor cooking with diffused uplighting to create a softer evening glow.

The result? A space that feels as inviting as it is practical — perfect for long Muskoka nights.
