Introducing Project Purdy Sweet.
This project is especially meaningful for our studio—it’s also a personal project for Sophie and her family. Designing it allowed us to explore ideas we’ve long admired while pushing the level of architectural detail we strive for in our work.
The exterior draws inspiration from Cape Cod shingle style architecture, layered with the deeper tones often found in west coast mountain homes. Traditional forms are paired with a darker palette to create a cottage that feels timeless, warm, and distinctive along the shoreline of Lake Rosseau.
Nearly every surface became an opportunity for detail: flared shingle wall transitions, custom timber brackets, exposed rafter tails, layered trim profiles, semi-solid cedar shake siding, stone veneer, curved rooflines, copper accents, and a custom eyebrow dormer.
It was a fun—but incredibly detailed—design challenge to ensure these elements could be executed properly in construction.
Wraparound covered porches provide architectural relief while serving an important purpose: shading the southwest-facing cottage from the strong afternoon sun.
And beneath the traditional character, the home is grounded in a high-performance, building-science-led design focused on durability, efficiency, and long-term comfort.
This is just the beginning—there’s much more of Project Purdy Sweet to share soon.
