When masking, fix one end to the floor then turn the roll 30 degrees towards the wall - this will ensure a straight line as you move your fingers along, sticking it to the floor or wall.

Don’t use Polyfilla to fill holes - it is a nightmare to sand. Use plaster of paris for a quick drying, easily sandable mud.

Always have a two inch putty knife in your back pocket. You can use it to ensure straight cuts in the corners for masking tape, for mudding, to knock off the small bits that you see on previous painted walls, scrape paint off floors, opening the paint can....

When you dip your paint brush, wipe off one side on the inside of the rim - that side will be the bottom so that you don’t drip.

Always use a 30mm (1.25inch) nap on your roller - it will hold enough paint and roll on nicely - small rollers just take longer.
