This is the year most people are looking for cost saving measures. Here’s one to think about. If you have an old growth hydrangea tree or shrub clip the flowers now and use them to decorate your urns or planters rather than leave them to break in the winter under heavy snow or wind. Save money. Keep everything looking good naturally or spray them for a pop of colour.

World AIDS Day, observed December 1 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. It is common to hold memorials to honor persons who have died from HIV/AIDS on this day.

AIDS has killed more than 25 million people between 1981 and 2007 of which about 270,000 were children, and an estimated 33.2 million people worldwide live with HIV as of 2007, making it one of the most destructive epidemics in recorded history. (www.cute-calendar.com)

Founded in 1987, Toronto People with AIDS Foundation (PWA) helps men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS. PWA connects people living with HIV/AIDS to each other, to provide support and inspire them to live out their dreams.

Their memorial at Barbara Hall Park was one of love filled events honouring the to HIV.

I used to ask people what colours they would like in their Holiday planters. That was in the beginning when all I wanted was a creative challenge and a chance to please. After a couple of years I noticed this little trend with red especially: People would say the want it really Christmassy: Bright red; Shiny; Joyous and the moment January hit, the calls would start coming to have it removed because it was too Christmassy. Fast forward to 2022: You ask for red and I share my years of experience with you and if you insist on reds, it’s the natural for me. Nothing shiny. Nothing bright because this old girl is not coming out in January to change a damn thing. Wheeeew child! That feeling of liberation once you’ve passed a certain age.🤭

Tis the season and we’re keeping it all natural this time.

What’s amazing is how by going natural with fillers in the planter your attention is drawn to the fact that these doors are unpainted. That was unintentional but I’m here for it. There must be a reason why unpainted doors are atypical in Cabbagetown. Anybody know why? Would love dome insight on this.

Now that I’m on the topic, these older doors, both original, are quite stunning. I feel like by leaving them unpainted you notice how all the little carvings in the wood really pop. The natural patina in the wood mirrors all the beautiful imperfections in nature that give everything more character and soul.

Lest we forget all the pain and suffering caused to scores of families because of hate. Lest we forget thousands of fallen soldiers young and old. Lest we forget it could happen again in a heart beat if we can’t love our neighbors as ourselves. Pray for peace🙏🏾
