Emmett Avenue Community Garden

Emmett Avenue Community Garden The garden grew to 18 members in 2007, 32 in 2008, and in 2009 celebrated its third full growing season with 89 participants.

Established in 2006 by Evergreen in partnership with the local community, the Emmett Avenue Community Garden is the only community space for food growing in Eglinton Flats park at the intersection of Eglinton Ave West-Jane St in Weston-Mount Dennis. It continues to see an increased interest from neighbours on near-by Emmett Avenue as well as across the broader community. Hands-on workshops in the

garden and participation from Mount Dennis Community Kitchen brings gardeners and community members together to learn about local food and the food system, canning and preserving, and organic gardening. In 2011, the garden transitioned from Evergreen to full community ownership.

Given all the bugs we had last summer, we def need to get us a whole bunch of bug-eating ladybugs this year! Also, love the raised beds in the pic below! Exactly what we need to make gardening easier for those that have mobility restrictions.

One thing I decided from the beginning when we started our garden was that I didn’t want to use any chemical pesticides. I’ve been very diligent about not using chemicals in the home so why would I use them in the garden? Especially on plants we grow to eat.
