Rudy alerts → I investigate!

Rudy pinpoints areas of concern, and then it’s my job to evaluate those areas using a variety of investigative tools — my eyes, a moisture meter, thermal imaging camera, humidity meter, and my personal favorite: the borescope.

A borescope is a flexible camera that allows me to see inside areas that would otherwise be inaccessible. It helps me inspect beneath dishwashers and refrigerators, inside ductwork, behind access panels, under sinks, and other hidden spaces where moisture and water damage can go unnoticed.

The more information we can gather, the better we can help our clients understand what’s happening inside their homes.

It’s personal.

This business was born out of my own health journey.

In 2015, I was diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease. For the next five years, I saw numerous specialists and tried countless treatments, but my health kept declining.

Not once did anyone mention mold as a possible factor.

I finally entered a treatment program with that focused on mold. That’s when I discovered I was living in toxic mold and my body was suffering the consequences.

What’s shocking is that multiple mold inspectors told me my home was fine. I knew it wasn’t. I just didn’t know where it was. Desperate for answers, I turned to a mold detection dog. Within minutes, the dog identified hidden problem areas that had been completely missed.

That moment changed my life. Once I addressed the mold, for the first time, my health finally began to improve.

Now, I’m on a mission to help others uncover what’s often overlooked and to bring awareness to the connecting of dots between our health and our environment.

Rudy is a huge part of our inspection process — but he’s only one piece of the puzzle.

A thorough mold inspection also requires a detailed visual inspection of both the interior and exterior of the home.

Where Rudy doesn’t go, I go.

Rudy doesn’t climb into attics, but he doesn’t need to. He can detect a problem simply by smelling the air coming from the attic access. From there, it’s my job to get eyes on the space and gather the data.

And attics?
They’re full of mold opportunities.

Roof leaks, HVAC systems, ductwork, poor ventilation, insulation issues, bathroom vents, condensation, gutters… there’s a lot happening above your ceiling.

Rudy can tell me there’s a problem.
My job is to help determine why.

Every inspection is a team effort with one goal:
Giving our clients as much information as possible. Every. Single. Inspection.

Training days always happen between inspection days. Even though Rudy’s mold detection training is deeply ingrained, ongoing practice is what keeps us sharp as a team. Regular training strengthens our partnership, fine-tunes Rudy’s accuracy, and keeps his nose consistently calibrated. And honestly… Rudy absolutely lives for this work. 🐾

Today’s session highlights one of our favorite training tools: “hides.”
A hide is a concealed mold sample placed somewhere for Rudy to detect. His job is to search the area and alert once he finds it. I have someone else place the hides so even I don’t know where they are — which makes the training more realistic and helps ensure Rudy is working purely off scent, not cues from me.

The battle against mold isn’t for the faint of heart — it takes a real team, and it takes persistence.

These are discoveries clients have made after our inspections. Every photo here represents something that wasn’t visible until the right steps were taken.

The fight against mold isn’t simple — and it’s never a one-person job. It takes a team, a process, and a willingness to follow the evidence wherever it leads.

An inspection doesn’t end the story — it starts it. It gives direction, clarity, and a plan for what needs to be addressed.

What’s happening under your home absolutely affects the air you breathe inside it.

It’s called the stack effect — air from the crawlspace naturally moves upward into the living areas of the home.

Crawlspaces are one of the most common hidden sources of mold and poor indoor air quality. Without proper moisture control, they can quietly impact the entire home.

Common crawlspace problems include:
• Moisture rising from exposed soil
• Poor grading or drainage allowing water to collect around the foundation
• Foundation cracks or openings allowing moisture intrusion
• Humid outdoor air condensing on cooler surfaces and ductwork
• Plumbing leaks and HVAC condensation
• Mold growth and wood decay
• Increased risk of termites, ants, and additional water damage
• Contaminated air being pushed into the home through gaps, flooring, and wall cavities

A healthy crawlspace requires more than just throwing down plastic.

Long-term protection comes from a complete moisture-control system:
• Proper grading and exterior drainage
• Foundation moisture management
• Proper v***r barriers and encapsulation
• Sealing air leaks
• Dehumidification
• Ventilation and air management

Simply covering the ground won’t solve excess humidity or hidden condensation issues. Moisture sources must be identified and controlled as part of the entire system.

When crawlspaces stay damp, mold, rot, and structural deterioration follow. Protecting the crawlspace helps protect the air quality and integrity of the entire home above it.

Will Rudy know if there’s a mold problem up high… like in the ceiling?

Yes.

Mold spores naturally become airborne and settle downward, which allows Rudy to detect their scent from the ground. Even when the source is hidden above, behind walls, or in ceilings, Rudy can alert to what your eyes can’t see.
