His early design experience involved manufacturing socially-responsible clothing and outdoor gear, a combination of his love of nature and his need to create. Longing for more creative work that involved a handson
approach Randy started building contemporary furniture using unconventional materials. Randy attributes his quick success in furniture building to his design skills from previous experiences, an uninfluenced self-taught approach, and a passion to push material boundaries. Nothing lasting is achieved without a sense and understanding of design. This is evident in the clean lines and visual flow of each piece. His furniture has its own signature, as no two pieces are alike due to the nature of his craft ... Randy pushes boundaries with his passion to explore and experiment with materials and ideas. In his first furniture showing, Randy was awarded a “Best New Product” award for his approach in seamlessly combining hardwood and concrete. His pieces are often described as functional art. Randy’s visionary concept of modern functional design as well as his passion to create are influenced by his surroundings along the shorelines of Nova Scotia, the place he calls home.
