🔧 Why are some homeowners removing their garburators?
I recently completed two jobs removing old garburators and rebuilding the plumbing under the kitchen sinks.
Garburators can be convenient, but there are several reasons why some homeowners choose to remove them:
1️⃣ Less chance of clogs
Food waste can contribute to blockages, especially when the wrong foods go down the drain.
2️⃣ Less maintenance
A garburator is another appliance that can jam, leak, develop odors, or eventually fail.
3️⃣ Older plumbing systems
Older pipes may not handle food waste as well, especially old cast-iron drainage systems.
4️⃣ Less water use 💧
Garburators need running water to flush food waste through the drain.
5️⃣More space under the sink
Removing the unit gives you more room for storage and makes the plumbing simpler.

That said, garburators aren't necessarily bad. They can be very convenient when properly installed and used correctly.
It really depends on your home, your plumbing system, and how you use your kitchen.
Would you keep your garburator or remove it? 👇

Hey everyone! Today I want to talk about CPVC pipes. This type of pipe is super common in older homes here in Canada. ✅ Plus: It doesn’t corrode, it can handle hot water, and it’s affordable. ❌ Minus: It’s more brittle than PEX and can crack easily. The big risk? When a CPVC pipe bursts, it’s often not just a tiny leak—it’s a full-on flood. If you can’t find the main water shutoff, the damage can be huge. So, if you’ve got CPVC—especially if it’s old and exposed—I’d strongly recommend replacing it before it causes a big disaster. Stay safe!

When we find a leaking pipe in an apartment building, we usually install a temporary repair clamp to stop the leak right away.

After that, the building manager notifies all residents about a scheduled water shutdown. On the agreed day, we return, shut the water off, and perform a proper permanent repair.

This approach helps prevent further water damage while giving residents time to prepare for the shutdown.
