Current Thoughts and Curiosities in Studio:

The rice krispy square my daughter made was delicious.

The light in the studio is inspiring.

Feeling a great sense of gratitude for connection and those who will have my best interest at heart and I will always have theirs.

"I awoke this morning for devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new."

Current Thoughts and Curiosities:

Green tea, exploring geodes, waxed linen and the essence of SILENCE.

"Silence is essential. We need silence, just as much as we need air, as much as plants need light. If our minds are crowded with words and thoughts, there is no space for us."

-Thich Nhat Hanh-

TEXTURE:

"is defined as the visual or tactile surface characteristics and appearance of something".

"something composed of closely interwoven elements"

My woven skins are ready to come off the loom, the "tactile" has always given me a sense of calm.

Traveling back in time: Remembering Japan, Part #2

To "adapt" is defined as becoming acclimatized to new conditions.

During my five year stay in Japan, I was inspired by the kimono patterns and colours I saw in kimono and ceramic shops. Adapting to small spaces meant adapting to small pieces.

During this time, I made 100 small scale textured surfaces on commercially made Japanese fabrics. These pieces created my first solo exhibition entitled, "SURFACE" in Morioka, Japan exploring ideas of 'surfacing' as an artist living in a foreign country and also adjusting to motherhood as my daughter Hanna was born in 2000.

Studio Ritual Part #1

I arrive at studio, make a green tea and turn to my desk. I always ask myself, "How are you feeling today?" and try to answer this question in colour swatches.

Most of the morning is listening to classical music, mixing colour, writing and discovering colour combinations based on my emotions at that moment in time. I see this time as "playing".

"The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct".

Current thoughts on searching for a "Meditative State":

Drip, drip, drip...and some blueberry pie. Perhaps the mind will wander...

"Oh, my mind wanders down odd paths. But I don't care. Some of the paths in my imagination are so much more interesting then the one I am on".

A simple walk in the woods and yearning for a sense of "awe" - "the feeling of reverential respect mixed with fear and wonder".

"Experience of awe attune people to things larger than themselves...they cause individuals to feel less entitled, less selfish, and to behave in more generous and helping ways".

Where the Earth meets the Sky...
What exists beyond the "Horizon"...
I wish I was an Astronaut for a day...

Neil Armstrong's thoughts on the horizon:

" Its a brilliant surface in that sunlight. The horizon seems quite close to you because of the curvature is so much more pronounced then here on earth. It's an interesting place to be. I recommend it".
