And The Winner Is..
Brian Beairsto
Brian is a cardiovascular perfusionist, he truly works as the last line of defence for the people suffering of from air deprivation which is a main factor for patients with Covid-19. Brian's story told through his loving wife's' eyes has touched our hearts, we are proud to be able to give him a hero's welcome home with an outstanding Liferoom.
Here is Brian's' Story:
It might seem a little self-serving to nominate my own husband for a home upgrade, but he has truly gone above and beyond during this global pandemic. Brian is part of a very small staff of
around 18 other perfusionists at Toronto General Hospital. They are part of the team that run what are known as 'ECMO' machines (extra-corporeal membrane oxygenators- say that 5 times fast!). These machines are used on the sickest of the sick, people for whom the ventilator is failing. ECMO is that one last chance for patient's and their families. My husband, and the whole perfusion team at Toronto General, have been putting COVID patients on ECMO since March. There have been many long and tiring evenings, overnights, and weekends put in as they have watched over these patients. As we all know, some of these patients do not survive, which has been the most difficult part for him. I'm nominating him because I've seen him come home after these shifts exhausted, stressed, and carrying a heavy heart. Somewhere for him to relax and unwind, like a Liferoom, would mean the world. I know there are many other healthcare workers who are equally deserving, so I won't say much more than this. Just know he would love a Liferoom, and I know it would be put to good use!
