My services include conceptual design, development of plans and elevations, 3-D modeling, and production drawings for single family homes, remodels, additions, basement suites, and bathroom or kitchen renovations. Additional services include site planning, mixed-use, and various residential-family. My architectural design experience and passion is in residential because of the effect it makes on p
eople's lives. Designing a place for your specific needs is a process; I hope to guide you through, no matter how large or small the project. It is very important that you find a designer you connect with and like communicating with because you will be working with this individual on a very personal level. Having an open dialogue while tailoring a space towards a client's needs and desires is vital to a successful project. Everyone uses spaces differently. These differences play a key role in generating a project's "design inspiration" which defines the way you choose to use the space. A beginning conversation about what the goals are for program, size, use, interrelationships between spaces, etc. As the project develops the most important desirables will become clear therefore helping to define the design direction for the project. I enjoy working with people’s design ideas to ultimately understand their ultimate goals. Your space is yours as the client and it is important that you feel comfortable with the choices being made within your project. Offering you options shares dialogue of discussion, enables visual possibilities and hopefully more confidence in making final decisions. An important tool is integrated into the design process of 3-D modeling to better visually explain the design ideas. This tool of 3-D in the design process allows the home owner to be able to understand the design and ultimately the final product. I have used this for many years from my early concept designs to the way through the final designs so the home owner has a greater understanding and awareness of the final product. My educational background, travel and experience has built a tremendous foundation for residential design. The Island is a beautiful place to live; with all of natural elements makes it a truly inspiring place to live and design. I look forward to hearing from you and helping design a space you truly love and inspired by for your family. PHASE 1 SCHEMATIC DESIGN
The first step is familiarization with the project, which involves examination of existing conditions be it a site or an existing home. The, project requirements, wish lists, budgets, and any regulatory restrictions are discussed and prioritized. This is followed by schematic designs that consist of site layouts, scaled floor plans and exterior views. Critical evaluations and subsequent revisions are made to these designs. The intent of the schematic design phase is satisfied when there is mutual agreement that the design direction established meets project requirements and has an element of interest and excitement. PHASE 2 DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
With the design direction established, efforts continue in design resolution, refinement and improvement. In the design development phase, the project is fully committed to the computer and comes alive in a 3-dimensional computer model. This presents the project design in a much more realistic format. Questions and concerns arise that are discussed. Alternatives are examined and ultimately implemented. The result of these efforts is a complete building shell that has been properly nestled into the specific site. A design development drawing set is produced that is frequently used for construction budgeting provided by a qualified builder or builders. Budgeting considerations may require design alterations. They are made before proceeding to the construction documents phase. PHASE 3 CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS
The role of construction documents is to translate the developed design into construction data for the many trades that help in building a project. Basic construction documents for general construction are consistent with recognized local building practices and all applicable code compliances. More detailed construction documents are optional. Some projects and clients are adequately served with limited design & construction detailing and others better served with more. The appropriate level of detail is discussed at project start up. In the more complete set of construction documents, clients participate in a variety of detailing decisions and product selections. These documents, when complete, are to be engineered, sealed, and ready for permitting and construction. PHASE 4 CONTRACT & CONSTRUCTION
This final phase includes the generation of construction pricing, the selection of a builder, the execution of the construction contract, and the construction process itself. Assistance is available in any or all four of these steps. That assistance can be advisory, or it can be quite specific and detailed. Once again, the correct selection of services for phase 4, if any, are project specific and are discussed at project start up.
