A common rule of thumb with pruning is to always wait until after a plant has bloomed to make major cuts. That means spring bloomers, like this deciduous , should only be pruned in mid to late summer. Well, I took a risk and shaped this one in the fall. I'm pretty happy with how the shape turned out, but it's only now that the buds are beginning to break that I am able to breathe a sigh of relief.
