The Grand Valley Society of Architects (GVSA) held a Backyard Homes Event in collaboration with The Architect Builders Collaborative and City of Kitchener. The Event is now posted on the Kitchener Public Library YouTube channel.

Thank you to the GVSA for inviting me to present my Backyard Home at this event. Many great local architects and designers also presented their designs as well as the winning design by Ana Gascon Macro and the Architect Builders Collaborative. Check it out here:

Great evening last night in support of KW Urban Native Wigwam Project & Kiwanis of KW affordable housing. I ran out of time to go into my Tiny Home submission for the City of Kitchener Backyard Home Design Competition so I'm sharing it here. Thank you for the honourable mention, City of Kitchener! I will donate my $250.00 award to last night's fundraiser.

The JPG image makes it hard to read the story (a friend of the family) of this so I will paste the story here:

"Karina is a professional musician and adjunct professor at the local University. Karina enjoys their quaint cottage-style single detached 1947 built home. Karina hosts fellow international musicians, family and friends in their home but it’s difficult to keep to their rigorous practice and private teaching schedule - especially if the guest is also a musician.

Karina’s Tiny Home will serve three purposes for this talented artist:

1. As a guest house for traveling musicians/artists, family and friends
2. As a private teaching studio
3. As a short-term rental (airbnb) for additional income

Karina is located in the historic Mount Hope neighbourhood close to the Centre in the Square, future Central Transit Hub (VIA rail, GRT & LRT), the Spurline Trail and close access to the 401 - essential for performing artists.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed how Karina lives, works and plays. Having a separate space that can accommodate quarantine requirements, physical distancing and small gatherings that spill into the courtyard, has become essential.

The courtyard is the adjoining feature between Karina’s Tiny Home and existing home. The descending elevation towards the Backyard Home gave way for a natural amphitheater design that allows the Tiny Home’s patio to double as a stage for intimate outdoor performances."

I'm pleased to officially announce here, that Andre Arseneault Architect will look different for 2021.

In Spring 2020 I was approached by Merrick, an Engineering and Architecture firm in Ottawa, to fill a specialized Senior Architect position. Although I was not looking for a change in work at the time, the COVID-19 pandemic presented many unknowns and joining Merrick has been a way for me to offer my services to a wide range of essential clientele that are in need of my skillset. With the Merrick Ottawa office, working in French with Francophone clientele has been a highlight for me so far. Given I grew up in Montreal, I feel like I've returned home.

I officially began working for Merrick at the end of August 2020 and have been transitioning my office while getting to know the Merrick Ottawa team. While Merrick understands that I have projects to complete for my existing clientele, please feel free to reach out to me to discuss how we can work together to meet your project needs with Merrick.

Merci bien!
André
