Environment Canada has issued a yellow level snow squall warning for the Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge area, in effect today into Tuesday. Forecasted conditions include periods of snow, blowing snow, strong winds, rapidly reduced visibility, and the potential for icy surfaces forming quickly.

Squirrel Landscaping & Snow Removal Services is operating on a 24/7 on-call basis, and our crews are actively deployed and responding to weather conditions as they develop. We provide service through per-visit, monthly, and seasonal contracts, and during active snow events, multiple visits may be required to maintain safe conditions.

Due to gusting winds and ongoing snowfall, conditions may change rapidly between service visits. We appreciate our clients’ patience during heavier periods of snow as safety remains our top priority.

We encourage residents and businesses to exercise caution when travelling or walking outdoors and to allow additional time as conditions deteriorate.

The City of Kitchener has declared a snow event as of 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10. Parking on the street is prohibited for the next 24 hours, and overnight parking exemptions are suspended.

With back-to-back systems expected to bring up to 25 cm of snow today and tomorrow, crews across the region are working through
reduced visibility and heavy accumulation.

Some of you have asked why we are so careful with how we apply salt, so I wanted to share a quick example. The first photo shows what happens when companies dump piles of cheap salt and walk away. It leaves a mess, wastes product, damages concrete, and can harm pets and gardens.

The second photo shows what proper ice control should look like. At Squirrel Landscaping we use our own premium ice melter mix. It works in colder temperatures, melts faster, is safer for pets, and does not leave big white patches all over your driveway. We apply it with a professional spreader so every area gets even coverage without damaging your surface.

The benefit for you is a cleaner property, safer walking areas, and no piles of salt left behind for days. The only downside for us is that it takes more time and care, but we would rather do it right.
