The more Pearly Everlasting that I plant in my yard, the more often I see American Lady butterflies here in Nova Scotia. The American Lady shares many of the same nectar plants as the monarch, so if you have a monarch garden and plant host plants for American Ladies, you will likely see them in your garden as well. Also like the Monarch, the American Lady is migratory. They migrate south from the northern US and Canada. Unlike the Monarch, however, they don't congregate in one place for the winter.

Invasive species highlight:

This is NOT phlox! Dames rocket (Hesperis matronalis) is a highly invasive species that spreads aggressively by seed. Make sure to get the full taproot whether you’re pulling or digging. Now is the best time of year to pull it before it goes to seed!

We unfortunately ended up with some in the lot next to us after they dumped a load of top soil and gravel so I’ll be busy removing some the next few days

Went for a drive today to the Lunenburg area!

The “car” refused to go further than LaHave Drumlins Native Plant Nursery so of course we had to pick up a few species I’ve been wanting for our now swampy area since the highway expansion. A great source of lovingly grown, uncommon species and one of few places I trust to buy straight-species, native plants from!

Into a few antique stores including of course The Four Points Vintage Market and a few others.

Complimented the day with a meal at Rebeccas Restaurant, huge compliment to the smash burger, the lobster roll, and Stacy our server!

Visited a roadside folk art stand and purchased a whirligig and a few other amazing pieces.

A wonderful day trip overall!
