My partner and I bought a farm this past winter, and I've been working on creating a vegetable garden this spring.
•
I'm lucky that the soil in this space hasn't been touched in years, so it has plenty of soil activity going on, also it already has lots of natural mulch on the ground from the past seasons plants.
•
I'm a big believer in mulch! It's the best thing you can do for the soil and your plants! It helps keep the moisture in the soil and slowly decomposes, giving nutrients back to the soil.
•
Using mulch is great for flower beds and trees as well, not just vegetable gardens.
•
In my garden, I'm using chipped tree mulch for pathways and straw for the beds. Cardboard gets laid down first to help kill off the plants that are already here.
•
There are many ways to create a garden, but this way for me feels natural and I love that!
