Kodaiandassociates

Kodaiandassociates We collaborate with local architects and often landscape artisans, craftsmen, and building masters on a regular basis. Art, Product, etc

We are an architectural studio that proposes bespoke architecture from private and residential projects, art galleries, product design, and other topics that are related to our living environment. HOW DO WE WORK
*with you:
We keep at all times an open dialogue with you and all parties involved, in order to make sure that the design progresses steadily and on time. Your ideas and proposals are al

ways greatly valued, together with you, we constantly challenge our design choices until you are fully satisfied.

*with our mindsets:
1・Working with “the presence of the site”
2・Integrating “nature and environment”
3・Considering “human value and scale”
4・Embedding “the power of material”

*with collaborators:
Collaboration is always the key aspect of realizing a successful project. We believe that each discipline can work together to enrich the quality and meaning behind the final product we propose. WHERE DO WE WORK
We carry out our design services from Zürich. Our projects are in the United Kingdom, Spain, Netherlands, Switzerland, and Japan. Working in different countries influences the way we think of our proposal. It often results in a cross-cultural product which is also our aim. WE WOULD LIKE TO HELP
We would like to connect parties to encourage East meets West's cultural contribution. We would like to also help you to import/export goods from and to Japan and Europe.

We are happy to share a recent article on MONOCLE magazine’s February issue with our work recently completed for a Swiss couple on the “Gold Coast” of Lake Zurich.

This 6-page article encapsulates the essence of our project in depth and showcases most of the aspects beautifully written by Nic Monisse and photo documented and directed by David Willen Studio. We are extremely pleased to be included in their magazine with the title of “New Dawn”, Inspiring ideas for 2024.

We'll be posting more shots of the project. We cannot thank Monocle magazine and Tyler Brûle enough for choosing our project.

Last week's "ARCHICHEF NIGHT ZÜRICH" was an incredible experience for us! It was an honour to participate alongside five other architectural studios from Zurich and witness their unique culinary interpretations of pre-designed projects.

The Sablier Rooftop Restaurant provided the perfect ambience for the event, and Ronny Zipfel and his team were exceptional hosts throughout the night.

We're excited to win the contest for "the best dish of the night" with our creation titled "Le petit saison," an ensemble of seasonal vegetables and fish from the Zurisee.

Collaborating with chefs was very inspiring, and we're grateful to all the studios and partners, especially TOWANT, for their support in making this event possible.

Huge thanks to Verena Felicitas Jehle for being a co-chef of ours and Claudia Maggi of kodaiandassociates GmbH to conceptualise it with Silvia Fanfani.

Also, the sponsors Dornbracht , Licht AG, Glasworld GmbH, Starpool and

::: Work in Progress I ::: Switzerland :::

Happy to share a view of a chalet building renovation in the Valais region in Switzerland, which was conceived in close collaboration with Axel Favre of GBO Architecture SA and its founder and director, Gregory Bonvin.

The project has come a long way through the pandemic period and many touching discussions with the commissioner. The existing Swiss chalet building was designed to orient the living experience towards views of the surrounding mountains. Our newly refurbished design is intended to bring attention to the inside of the house, creating an ambience that is unique to this place. This room, in particular, receives gentle sunlight from below the house due to its proximity to Valais’s unique landscape and the altitude of the chalet. The ceiling was designed to capture the slightest difference in light conditions.

Chalk Garden in Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew
kodai and associates & Otis Landscape Associates were commissioned by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in London, to create "Chalk Garden" at the Japan Horticultural Festival 2021- a festival to promote cultural exchange between Japan and the UK through nature and garden culture. The garden is located in the North Octagon block, an octagonal greenhouse attached to the north side of the main block of Kew's Temperate House, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built-in 1862.

English and Japanese Garden
The garden was designed and installed to reflect our contemporary ideas on gardens and spaces by expressing the beauty of the ground and plants in a historic building context, using representative subsoil material in Britain “chalk” and Japanese plants available in the UK. It intends to create an experience that would encourage people to think about how they relate to the environment represented in the garden. The English garden and the Japanese garden are different in many ways. Still, we share a common principle of celebrating the beauty of plants, where the design explores the appeal of the garden cultures of both countries.
