Mino Caggiula Architects

Mino Caggiula Architects Based in Lugano, the firm consists of a closeknit group of architects of different backgrounds and t It develops through the creation of many models.

The firm Mino Caggiula Architects comes from a unique career developed over the last two decades which has always been divided among planning, design, construction, studies and theoretical research. Mino Caggiula Architects’ team has realized many projects at different scales, from design objects to city plans. Simplicity, elegance, attention to sustainability of the projects as well as the enviro

nment and the territory are the main features that the architect Mino Caggiula demands from each project. Having previous experience as a bricklayer, the architect never starts from a sketch: trying not to split the inspirational phase from the technical one, he always establishes his creative process starting from the practice of building relative to the terrain. The synergy of man’swork and the nature of a place is the quintessence of creativity. The concept, as design guideline, begins with the manual modeling of a territory. Its tangible form matures in the final design, obtained by paying attention to the smallest details. Finally, through the management of the site and meeting deadlines and costs, it is transformed into the Art we call Architecture. The experience gained over the years has been enriched by collaborations with important architects and theorists such as Kenneth Frampton, Steven Holl and Elia Zenghelis, allowing the architect to enter into the international scene. This knowledge base is crucial in the creative process, bridging the distance that often arises between theory and built Architecture.

Paguro is defined by the tension between old and new, a deliberate architectural dialogue built on contrast rather than continuity.

The project starts from an existing structure, which is not neutralized or disguised, but kept as a strong historical presence. Against it, a new curvilinear volume is introduced, clear and contemporary in language.

The relationship is not seamless: it is explicit. Solid masonry meets fluid geometry, permanence meets transformation, memory meets reinterpretation. Rather than blending the two layers, the project highlights their difference, allowing each to retain its identity while shaping a shared spatial system.

Paguro is an architecture built on contrast, where the encounter between past and present becomes the true design strategy.

Architecture is a multidisciplinary field, constantly shaped by the complexity of human needs and the places people choose to inhabit. Understanding how spaces can truly support well-being means reading contexts, behaviors, and lifestyles with precision and sensitivity.
This requires movement across disciplines, cultures, and expertise, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with people of excellence, each bringing a different layer of knowledge and competence.

Because it is only by learning from great masters that we can understand how to make fewer mistakes, and design with greater awareness.

Naked is defined by radical essentiality, a stripped gesture that reduces design to its purest structural logic.

More than a chaise longue, it is a precise composition of lines and surfaces, where every element is resolved in continuity between function, comfort, and form. Nothing is added: everything is necessary.

Its materiality is direct and honest, emphasizing contact, weight, and proportion rather than decoration. The presence is discreet yet strong, designed to integrate naturally within architectural and landscape contexts.

Naked is an object reduced to its essence, and precisely for this reason, it becomes architectural.

Blade expresses its architectural identity through a precise dialogue between material and landscape, a sequence of spatial “cuts” carved into the terrain.

Curved corten steel elements define the project’s spatial structure: solid, continuous surfaces that shape the slope and organize the rhythm of the dwellings. The material is both structural and expressive, shaping perception through mass, shadow, and calibrated openings. Over time, the material changes, allowing the building to age with a natural, controlled patina that strengthens its relationship with context.

Within this system, greenery is not an accessory but an active architectural layer. Vegetation grows along edges, terraces, and vertical gaps, softening the rigidity of the corten and introducing seasonal variation into the built form.

The result is a deliberate contrast between permanence and transformation, where steel and nature operate as a single, calibrated architectural language.

Via Cotonificio rethinks collective living through a clear and controlled architectural gesture.

Three residential volumes are arranged in a horseshoe configuration, defining a generous central green space that becomes the real core of the project: a shared landscape rather than a simple courtyard.
The architecture works as a frame: deep terraces, rhythmic façades, and carved voids shape a continuous dialogue between built form and vegetation, where light and greenery actively define spatial quality.

Different housing typologies are integrated into a cohesive system, designed to support diverse lifestyles while maintaining a constant visual relationship with the park.

A project where built form and landscape operate as a single, inseparable system.

Libellula is more than a residential project: it is a precise gesture within the landscape.

Inspired by the lightness of a dragonfly, the architecture settles gently into the natural contours of the terrain, avoiding imposition while enhancing views, light, and spatial continuity.

A transparent central circulation core acts as the project’s “body”, while the living units unfold like wings, establishing a subtle balance between openness, privacy, and orientation.

Materials, greenery, and reflections dissolve the boundary between inside and outside, turning the building into a seamless extension of its context.

Libellula is where architecture does not dominate nature, it quietly learns from it.

The construction site is where ideas become architecture.

At Mino Caggiula Architects, every detail and material is shaped on site with clarity, precision, and purpose. Spaces take form, light defines volumes, and architecture comes to life as a crafted and deliberate experience.
