Materials Collection – Part 2

Materials are often judged by their technical performance. But what happens when we look at them differently?

Together with photographer Simone Cavadini we continue our exploration of building materials through a visual lens. In this second series, textures, colours and surfaces interact to create new compositions and perspectives.

The result is a collection that highlights the beauty, diversity and character of materials commonly used in construction.

At this year's Open Hub Day at the Hub Zürich (Colab), Kouto Alternative Building will be inviting you to discover the latest innovative, regenerative and recyclable construction materials. You can see them in samples, but also in collaborative artistic projects such as postcards, posters and T-shirts.

We are organising a meeting for solo entrepreneurs and small companies working in construction, architecture or design, together with Vivian Hauss of Bluehub.

The Material Lab is a curated collection of building materials, based on an original selection of over 180 samples.

It acts as a bridge between aesthetic, innovative and ecological materials and their application in regenerative architecture.

Through the Material Lab, you can access consultancy services to explore each material in depth — from its properties to its potential use in real projects.

Materials are organised according to KBOB life cycle assessment data, providing insight into their environmental impact, while keeping colour, texture and aesthetics at the centre of the experience.

Climate Week Zurich which runs from 4 to 9 May, is coming to Zurich. This event brings together business leaders, policymakers, researchers, creatives and innovators to collaborate on and expand climate action. Kouto Alternative Building will be a contributing partner and will organise a workshop on sustainable construction using biobased and recycled materials.
