Wuhan Guangbutun Tech Plaza, under construction, by .

A dual large-span roadshow space is formed by lifting secondary beams above a 27-meter space truss. Two concrete cores act as the only architectural elements connecting the truss to the ground, liberating the spatial field from structural constraints. Positioned at the center of the maker, incubation, and pilot-production complex within the tech campus, the project provides a flexible public framework for diverse forms of collective activity and interaction.

Under construction, Visitor Center in Kangrinboqe, China, by TAO.

The project site is located on the western side of Tarqin Village, Baga Township, Burang County, Ngari Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region. It lies at the interface between the edge of a human settlement and the natural highland landscape, serving as a crucial transitional node before entering the pilgrimage circuit around Mount Kailash. To the north, it is adjacent to the main road leading to the sacred mountain area; to the east, it faces the Tarqin International Tourism Town; to the south, it opens onto the expansive plateau desert landscape, offering distant views of Namu Na-ni Peak; and to the west, it gradually transitions into a gentle natural slope. The site itself occupies a liminal state between two distinct environments: on one side, a clearly defined system of human infrastructure and services; on the other, a vast and indeterminate natural landscape. The built environment here tends to converge, while the natural environment unfolds. Accordingly, the visitor center is not only tasked with service and transfer functions but also assumes a spatial role as a threshold—it marks the point of transition from human order to the highland terrain, from a state of transportation to a spiritual journey, where the pace of the body gradually slows and undergoes transformation.

Chenhu Wetland Art Center, Wuhan, China, by TAO.

The unique locality of the intertidal flat where the present project is situated once again prompts us to reconsider how walls can reformulate spatial relationships and articulate a grounded connection to the site. And the design emerges from these natural conditions. The bending lower walls are not mere abstract form-making, but a response to the buoyant force of water. They rise and fall subtly along the water’s edge, as if pushed, saturated, and molded by the flow. No sharp boundary separates architecture from water; the folded wall bases lightly touch the water surface, producing a distinctive reflection at the horizon line and allowing the building to become part of the wetland landscape. This “folding” is both a formal language and a temporal expression—it records the gestures of water as it brushes against and permeates the land. The architecture thus becomes a vessel of “water’s memory.”

Chenhu Wetland Art Center, Wuhan, China, by TAO.

Situated at the geographical center of China, Wuhan earned the title of the “Gateway to Nine Provinces” as early as the Ming and Qing dynasties. From the ancient Yunmeng wetlands, to Yu the Great diverting the Han River into the Yangtze, and later the river’s course shift in the sixth year of Emperor Chenghua’s reign, the city gradually took shape as today’s “River City.” Renowned as the “City of a Hundred Lakes,” Wuhan is interwoven with rivers, lakes, and waterways, with water areas occupying one quarter of its territory. Evidently, the relationship between “water” and “city” is inseparable.

Tide’s Echo Hall by TAO (Trace Architecture Office) is one of the nominees for the Archdaily 2026 Building of the Year Awards !!!Now in its 17th year, the award is shaped by a community-driven process open to the global architectural public. Each year, thousands of architects and design enthusiasts worldwide participate by voting, offering a broad and international perspective on the projects that are genuinely influencing the discipline and advancing architectural discourse.

The Tide‘s Echo Hall faces the sea, serving as both a venue for large-scale events and a vital coastal platform for the public. Its architectural form reflects a clear spatial orientation: on the west side, the building presents a humble gesture toward the black pine forest, creating a tranquil arrival experience through a layered entrance sequence; on the east side, it stretches out towards the sea, creating a panoramic viewing platform that appears to float above the tides. The subtly undulating roof serves as the most expressive architectural element. Its pure white curved surface becomes a striking visual focal point, evoking the image of a sail billowing gracefully in the sea breeze. The delicate contour and ultra-thin roof structure achieve an extreme sense of lightness, enhancing the impression of movement and fluidity. Portions of the cantilevered roof are supported by slender columns, further highlighting the dynamic balance between strength and elegance.

The nomination stage begins on January 27 and runs until February 10, 2026. This stage determines the finalists who will move on to the final vote. Winners will be officially announced on February 19, 2026.
Support the project and vote in bio. Thanks!!!!

The dispersed curved walls produce a gallery sequence that is not linear. Visitors navigate a path that bends, divides, and reconnects, continually drawn toward glimpses of the open water. The layout engenders a threshold between “inside and outside,” “exhibition and nature.” Here, one does not merely view the exhibition but participates in it, engaging bodily with walls, light, and water. The folded walls become interfaces that guide behavior and perception, allowing “viewing” to unfold as a fluid corporeal experience.

To be completed soon, Chenhu Wetland Art Center, Wuhan, China, by TAO.

The bending walls are not mere abstract form-making, but a response to the buoyant force of water.

Its plan is not a continuous enclosure but a spatial field composed of freely distributed walls. They appear almost spontaneous, yet mediate between the density of urban form and the looseness of open water. From above, the configuration resembles organic bodies floating along the shore—dispersed yet unified, simultaneously artificial and naturally formed. This indeterminate plan echoes the ecological logic of wetlands: lacking fixed centers or boundaries, it is porous, open, and symbiotic.
