Very proud to share that Plugin Stories opened this past Friday at Yulin Song Project Space in Chengdu and with a great turnout!

The exhibition features content from our newly published book Plugin House (Thames & Hudson, 2026), alongside videos, scale models, DIY model components, and a full-scale Plugin House assembled inside the gallery.

Plugin Stories also includes a series of People’s Architecture Office–designed furniture that embody the “plugin” approach: Tetris Table, People’s Bench, People’s Stool, and People’s Table.

Special thanks to Jiakun Non-Architects for supporting the exhibition and Q&A, and to Liu Jiakun for hosting and designing a special cocktail for the opening.

On view through June 28, 2026.

Great conversation with Matt Shaw in this month’s issue of Domus about how participation drives our work across scales—from temporary public art installations to Plugin projects upgrading historic neighborhoods in China, supporting unhoused communities in Austin, and projects like Wuzhou Elementary School in Shenzhen.

The Plugin House is officially out today, February 24!

A heartfelt thank you to for bringing this project to life, and deep gratitude to the incredible contributors who reflect on “plugging in” as a design strategy, what they’ve observed, questioned, and practiced in their own work:

Andrew Freear of
Tau Tavengwa

The book traces the history of prefabrication, examines why housing remains a global crisis, and positions the Plugin House within this larger narrative, as an approach that works with existing communities rather than replacing them.

Light Vortex Bridge is nominated for Building of the Year Award 2026 in the Public and Landscape Architecture category. This is our third Building of the Year nomination this year!

The Light Vortex Bridge wraps a pedestrian bridge in blue inflatable spirals, transforming an everyday crossing into an immersive experience of color and movement. Read as sculpture from afar and as a spatial tunnel from within, the installation changes from day to night as light activates the vortex.

Pleased to share that Floating Canopy Grove is also nominated for an Building of the Year Award for 2026 in the Small Scale & Installations category. We’ve got 3 nominations this year!

Floating Canopy Grove is an architectural intervention in the forest, an ensemble of small public structures where architecture, art, and nature meet to create a place to pause, rest, and reflect. Nestled in the woods near Luofu Mountain in Huizhou, China, the project reimagines an old restroom site as a woodland stop for cyclists, with a café, new facilities, and space to recharge before the ride continues.

Happy to share that Porcelain Studios Plugin Revivial, in collaboratin with Liu Kecheng Studio, is nominated for Building of the Year 2026 in the Cultural Architecture, Renovation category.

Porcelain Studios Plugin Revival injects new life into Jingdezhen’s historic porcelain workshops with lightweight, prefabricated living and working units—installed without touching the original fabric. Working at the scale of courtyards and studios, the project keeps the spirit of porcelain-making alive while providing spaces for contemporary use.

I saw Rem Koolhaas speak at the Jameel Arts Center in Dubai over the weekend and took the chance to give him a copy of the Plugin House Book. We actually started the book project with Jennifer Sigler, our editorial consultant, who was also the editor of SMLXL and Content, a nice overlap.

Designed for creativity, play, and exploration, Wuzhou Elementary School reimagines how space supports learning in Shenzhen’s shift from industry to innovation. The campus is concevied as a three-dimensional Learning Landscape, a flowing field of interior and exterior spaces that emphasize curiosity and hands-on learning.

The school is organized around three landscape elements: Mountain, Valley, and Beach. The Mountain houses the theater and cafeteria with stepped seating for gathering and performance. The Valley creates terraced spaces for younger students, while the Beach forms a playful terrain of rolling hills that support physical development and open-ended play.

Vegetation is integrated throughout the campus to cool the microclimate, filter pollution, and connect the school to the park landscape beyond—turning learning into an immersive, everyday experience.
