The Memorial Center “Staro Sajmište” Central Tower has been nominated for the EU Mies Award 2026.

had the privilege of designing the interior architecture, while the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Belgrade (Zavod za zaštitu spomenika kulture Beograd) led the meticulous restoration of the historic structures.

The Memorial Center stands on the grounds of the former Staro Sajmište camp—one of the most tragic and painful sites of 20th-century Europe. The project carefully balances preservation and contemporary interpretation, allowing authentic architecture to speak, while introducing subtle spatial interventions that guide visitors through layers of memory.
Through light, materiality, and silent voids, the interior aims to frame the stories of those who suffered here, offering a space for remembrance, reflection, and learning.
This nomination is a recognition of the collective effort to protect memory and to articulate a new cultural and educational landmark for Belgrade and Europe.
