Pirografija znači “pisanje vatrom” i tradicionalni je oblik umetnosti koji se služi zagrejanim vrhom ili žicom kojima se pali podloga od prirodnih materijala, kao što je drvo ili koža, da bi se na njih preneo dizajn.

U većini slovenskih jezika njegovo značenje je "krug kretanja": "kolo" označava točak, krug, dok je "vrat" koren za okretanje, obrtanje...
Simbolizuje snagu, dostojanstvo, sunce i vatru, život, smrt i ponovo rođenje, putovanje Sunca, smenu godišnjih doba. Označava i neprekidni tok rađanja i smrti.

Slavic mythology
The kolovrat [spinning wheel] represents the Sun and is a symbol of the god Svarog. It represents strength, dignity, sun and fire. It is a symbol of secular as well as spiritual power. "Kolo" means wheel, and its "vrat" [spokes] are turning. The kolovrat represents the endless cycle of birth and deaths. [Each turn of] the wheel is a cycle of life in our world.
