Marios Economides holds a Diploma in Architecture (AA Dip RIBAII, Architectural Association School of Architecture, London UK, 1988). In 1991, he established his own architectural practice in Nicosia and since 1998 he is a principal partner in Economides + Akkelidou Architects. He is a registered architect, member of the Technical and Scientific Chamber of Cyprus. He has designed and supervised the construction of numerous projects both in the public and private sector. Since 1992 he has received six 1st prize and four 2nd prize awards for projects he has submitted in various architectural competitions, including most recently 1st prize for the Visitor Centre at the National Forest Park Kavo Gkreko and for the New Municipal Theatre of Pafos. He was a finalist in the 1996 Mies Van De Rohe European award for Architecture for his B’ Elementary School Avgorou, Cyprus. In 1998 he received the Republic of Cyprus’ State Architecture Award for the same project. In 2016 he received the Republic of Cyprus’ State Architecture Award for the Visitor Centre at the National Forest Park Kavo Gkreko, which was also nominated to represent the Republic of Cyprus for the Mies Van De Rohe European Award for Architecture. He has taught architectural synthesis at UCY’s Department of Architecture during the Spring semesters 2009 – 2010. From September 2010 to September 2017 he was a guest tutor for architectural design & synthesis at Frederick University’s Department of Architecture, in Nicosia.
