Κέντρο Περιβαλλοντικής Ενημέρωσης στην Περιοχή του Δικτύου Natura 2000 στις Αλυκές της Λάρνακας

Σε συνεργασία με Urban Radicals

Κεντρική ιδέα της πρότασης είναι η ενσωμάτωση της διαδρομής περιήγησης στο ίδιο το κτήριο. Το κτήριο λειτουργεί γραμμικά ως μια συνεχής πορεία ανάμεσα στην πόλη και τις Αλυκές, φέρνοντας το τοπίο στο εσωτερικό και επανασυνδέοντας τον επισκέπτη με το ευρύτερο περιβάλλον.

To κτήριο συγκροτείται ως συμπαγής σύνθεση, αρθρωμένη σε τρεις επιμέρους ενότητες που οργανώνουν τις βασικές λειτουργίες, με αφαιρέσεις και εγκοπές οι οποίες εισάγουν φως, θέα και την διαδρομή στο εσωτερικό. Παραδοσιακές τεχνικές και χρωματικές αποχρώσεις από το έδαφος της περιοχής επανερμηνεύονται, ευθυγραμμίζοντας την υλική παλέτα με τις γήινες τονικότητες και τη συνολική οικολογία των Αλυκών.

Η αρχιτεκτονική τοπίου βασίζεται σε αρχές ήπιων επεμβάσεων, με ζώνες διαφορετικής έντασης χρήσης και έλεγχο οχημάτων, θορύβου, σκόνης και φωτορύπανσης. Στις διαδρομές εντάσσεται το πτηνοπαρατηρητήριο, εκμεταλλευόμενο την υψομετρική διαφορά, χωρίς να επιβαρύνει την υφιστάμενη θέα.

Environmental Information Centre in the Natura 2000 Network Area at the Larnaca Salt Lakes

Architectural Competition 2025, Honourable Mention

In collaboration with Urban Radicals

The main concept of the proposal is the integration of the visitor route into the building itself. The building becomes part of the continuous path between the city and the Salt Lakes, bringing the landscape into the interior and reconnecting the visitor with the broader environment.

The building’s massing is formed through a compact composition, articulated by three distinct units that organise the programme, with voids and cuts introducing light, views, and the route itself into the interior. Traditional techniques and colours derived from the site are reinterpreted, aligning the material palette with the earthy hues and the overall ecology of the Salt Lakes.

The landscape design is based on principles of gentle intervention, with zones of varying intensity of use and controlled vehicle access, noise, dust, and light pollution. A birdwatching observatory is incorporated along the routes, taking advantage of the change in elevation without impacting the existing views.

The original spatial qualities of each room have been carefully preserved, while mechanical and electrical installations are intricately woven throughout the space and intentionally left exposed, highlighting the dialogue between heritage and contemporary design.
