Contemporary arenas should act as activators of their surrounding urban fabric.
Building on our experience designing the Horácká Urban Arena in Jihlava. Our proposal for the London Colosseum considers how these buildings can accommodate overlapping aspects of public life – including sports and entertainment – within a single urban framework.
Designed for basketball, boxing, esports and other live events, the arena is conceived as a flexible venue capable of shifting between intimate configurations and large-scale events for up to 25,000 spectators.
Alongside the arena, the proposal integrates training facilities, educational programmes, public space, hospitality and housing, bringing everyday urban activity into a building typology typically only activated during ticketed events.
The wider team behind the proposal includes Jericho Estates, Torch Sports and Peacock Gym, which has supported boxing and youth programmes in east London for nearly 50 years.
As discussions around the future of sport, entertainment and cities continue to evolve, we are excited to see the project generating conversation across architecture and sports media around the world.
